What does a typical day look like in automotive and related repairs.

what is the work conditions? is the work areas clean? how well or often do we have breaks? how well are the other employees? does everyone have a great attitude and feel like they are ready to work and get the job done. does everyone have great motivation?

These are excellent questions. These are the topics to keep in mind when interviewing. The employer may be prone to say everything is as you might wish, but these are the topics that you need to assess yourself. Some repair shops will be spotless, and others will be dirty. You will probably find a cleaner work environment if you work for an automotive or truck dealership, although small repair shops may have more close employee interaction. All the best to you.

Great questions to ask. I have a very close friend in this field, and he would say a lot of these answers vary from establishment to establishment. What you would want to look for are companies that invest in their employees... do they send their employees to get certified for new technologies that come out? The more trained you are, the more marketable you are, and can set yourself apart from your peers. Touring the shop is a great way to get an idea what level of priority the company puts on safety & cleanliness. I think the sentiment depends on the individual. Are you a positive-minded person, or do you find yourself having a hard time seeing the glass half-full? It's hard work nonetheless, but you can learn a lot and be a valuable asset to yourself, friends, and family :)
