what are some good colleges ?

I'm in 9th grade I would like to try and get a scholarship to a very good college I like fashion design and sewing cooking and baking and I love to do sports like volleyball and basketball

Thank you comment icon I would agree with picking out your majors and then picking your colleges from there. You will want to keep in mind the costs as well. Each state has some institutions that are public which means that they tend to cost less. That is a good place to start if you feel a bit unsure and don't want to invest a lot of money. Hi Kris,

This is a great question! Though not an easy one to answer. There are hundreds of good schools. It's more about finding the best school for you rather than trying to find just the best schools out there.

You'll first want to narrow down some majors you are interested and then focus on the schools that have great programs in those areas.

I recommend starting with 3 or 4 subjects you think you would be interested in. A few examples based on your interests might be fashion design, culinary, pastry chef or sports management.

Once you make your list start looking at the schools ranked well in those particular subjects. For example, Kent State, Rhode Island Institute of Technology and Parsons School of Design are all well known for their fashion programs. I recommend using the website niche.com to begin your search. You can do a search like "best culinary schools ", and it will give you a list of schools and their rankings on various aspects of the school.

Then, you can look at what those schools offer and see if they will provide the resources you need. For example, you might need a school with low tuition, smaller classroom sizes or a safe campus. Then, you should be able to narrow yourself down to a handful of colleges you want to apply for.

I think that you should do your research on schools in state and out of state that are known for the things that you are interested in. There are plenty of colleges out there, and I also think that reaching out to your school counselor can help you with this process. It can be overwhelming, but you're on the right track already!

Networking with people who are working in the field that interests you is a great way to find out how other people achieved their sucess. You can find fashion designers online or in person and ask them about their journey. What school and or courses did they take. How did the person at your local bakery get into that line of work. What school did they attend. People love to talk about themselves. They are the experts so the answers are easy. You can learn important information that will help you to choose a good path for your own future.

Another good strategy is to take part time courses in areas that interest you before committing to a career in the field. That way you will know if, for example, you enjoy working in an industrial kitchen or what skills are important for a fashion designer. The teacher will be a great source of information as they will likely know schools in the field and in the geographical location that you are looking.

Another important consideration is financial. How much will your prospective education cost. This information can help you to plan your savings strategy to have enough money to comfortably pursue your goals at the end of high school. Start saving now.
