Hello,
You should call interior designer shops in your area and ask if there is a possibility for shadowing, etc if this is your chosen field. Call them, present yourself with your name and what you feel they could help you with and your goals for the future. They may be excited to have you and help you.

Great Question Julie,
There are plenty of architect firms within San Antonio that offer internships to current or potential interior design students and many are paid internships which a plus. For example, LakeFlato, LPA, Alamo Architects, and Ford Powell and Carson to name a few. As far as shadowing, many of these firms work with high schools or universities and hold an office crawl which allow students to visit their firm for the day to see the life and day of an interior designer/architect. Please visit the following sites for events that are held through the year many are free and membership is not necessary:
