What is the best way to help your peers on a broad scale?

If one has experience with writing resumes, finding a job, and working efficiently, what is the best way to help your classmates acquire these skills? Where can I find a group that works on these skills to make sure I am up to date and still working efficiently too? I want to learn from my classmates and school, but I also want to give back to them. #business #learningenviroment #teamwork

Thank you comment icon Hello! If you are planning to pursue a post-secondary degree, you can apply to work in the career-oriented services of your college or university. In high school, you could offer individual help to those you know need it, choose the professional development as a topic to cover during informational presentations in public speaking courses, or offer a workshop to your peers. You could aid people with job applications and well as college ones. There may also be community services you could work/volunteer at to provide help as well. Sabina

That is a great question and very a noble pursuit. I believe one of the best ways to help your classmates learn these skill is by hosting a series of workshops. Maybe one workshop per topic using a deck and handouts as guides for your classmates.
To help keep your skills up to date I would recommend checking out Continuing Education classes at your local Community College. These are usually low cost evening class that meet over a short period of time (e.g. three to five weeks) instead of a full semester. You may also want to consider reaching out to a business that specializes in resumes and career searching to see if they would host a free workshop for you and your classmates.

Hey David, I really love your focus on giving back to your peers. You have 100% the right attitude of a servant leader and that will fare you well throughout your career, and life in general!


Building on Matt B.'s ideal of holding workshops, you can also wrote short posts (on Medium, LinkedIn, etc.) You can also be a guest on a relevant podcast and talk about your experiences. Storytelling is a great way to have information be compelling, sticky, and memorable. Find ways to tell your storytelling in bite-sized pieces and share those pieces out in engagement vehicles that you and your peers use the most.

Check out Meetup.org to see if there are local events you can share your stories and experiences at.
Think about people you follow who tell compelling stories that you learn from. What do you admire the most in their methods? Trying incorporating 1-2 of those methods into your approach - of course, tailoring to fit YOU. =) Good luck!
