Hi Mackswell,

Thanks for reaching out.

Simple jobs that don't require a lot of training would be found for example in hospitality, retail, as helper in some trades, in storage facilities or as gardener or handyman.

If you have a drivers license, you can drive (Uber, delivery, taxi, personal driver). If you don't have your drivers license yet, make it a point to get it as soon as you can.

I would suggest that you do some soul searching what kind of work you would enjoy. Keep an eye open for possibilities for advancement. If you were to start as a waiter, would you be able to get promoted? If you start as helper with a plumber, would you be able to get an apprenticeship to become a skilled plumber yourself? If you start with a gardening service, would you be able to learn enough to start your own business one day? Think about what your final goal would be, and make it happen!

Good luck! You got this!

Fred’s Answer

Many people get a first job in retail or fast food (I only know about the USA). My first job was bussing tables in a restaurant. I then worked at a grocery store and later a book store. All these were while I was figuring out my career path and going to college.

You need to find someplace that you would (at minimum) not hate working at, and go apply. Be honest about what you can and cannot do. Be as flexible as possible. Then, if you get an interview, show up on time, well dressed, and clean (you'd be amazed at what people wear sometimes...). Be courteous, be curious, and honest. Come prepared to answer why you want to work there. Thank the interviewer when you leave.

Repeat the above until you are offered a job.
