Thank you comment icon Hello Nokulunga! Your inquiry is right up my alley! You're the perfect mentor for me, but my specialty is economics, so I'm not in a position to offer guidance. I suggest diving into this fascinating subject from an Artificial Intelligence perspective or continue looking my peer's advice. May blessings always be upon you! Isida Mici Isida M

Great answers already submitted. Please start looking at which of these possibilities are a good "fit" for who you are and what motivates you. I found some good language online:

When you major in science, you can build a broad base of knowledge to draw from across a wide variety of subjects, including biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, psychology, medicine, engineering, computing, and many others. Depending on which subject you choose, you could end up working in areas like health care, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, food production, environmental protection, energy, manufacturing, IT, education, law, finance, marketing, management, and more.

While the exact list of available science majors will typically vary from one university to the next, you’re likely to find some common majors at most four-year universities. Some of the most common science majors include:

Agriculture: Study of growing crops and raising livestock
Astronomy: Study of celestial objects and the physical universe
Biology: Study of life
Biochemistry: Study of chemistry as it relates to living organisms
Biophysics: Study of physics as it relates to biological phenomena
Cellular biology: Study of cells
Chemistry: Study of matter
Earth science: Study of the planet Earth
Ecology: Study of the relationship between organisms and their environments
Genetics: Study of genes and heredity in living organisms
Kinesiology and exercise physiology: Study of human movement
Meteorology: Study of the atmosphere and weather forecasting
Microbiology: Study of microscopic organisms
Physical science: Study of nonliving materials
Physics: Study of matter and its motion and behavior
Zoology: Study of animals

I hope this helps. Wishing you all the best.

Hey Nokulunga! 🤗 It’s awesome that you're already thinking ahead about your future career in Grade 11! Considering you're doing Maths Literacy, Life Science, and English, you still have options in the medical field, even though many medical degrees typically require Pure Maths.

### Here’s what you can consider:

### 1. **Nursing** 💉
Nursing is a fantastic option! It doesn't require Pure Maths, and with your strong performance in Maths Literacy, you're more than set to handle it. Plus, it’s a profession with loads of growth opportunities, both locally and globally. 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

### 2. **Allied Health Professions** 🩺
There are many fields within health sciences like **pharmacy**, **radiography**, and **physiotherapy** that might be a great fit. While some of these may require Pure Maths for specific programs, there are often alternative pathways, like **bridging courses** that let you upgrade your Maths literacy.

### 3. **Health and Social Care** 🏥
Other careers within the medical field could be in fields like **health administration**, **public health**, and **nutrition**. These roles often don’t require Pure Maths, so they could be good options to explore!

### 4. **Upgrading to Pure Maths** 🧮
If you're open to upgrading your Maths Literacy to Pure Maths, you can take a bridging course (often offered by universities or through online platforms). This would open up more medical career paths for you, like medicine or physiotherapy.

### Quick Tip:
**Check the entry requirements** for the universities you’re interested in. Different institutions may have slightly different requirements, and some offer **bridging programs** to help you qualify for medical degrees even with Maths Literacy. If you are set on a specific career like medicine, this could be a route worth considering!

#### Final Advice:
Stay focused on your interests and strengths. If nursing or another allied health field excites you, go for it! And don’t be afraid to reach out to university advisors for the exact info about upgrading your qualifications. 🚀

Good luck on your journey, Nokulunga! You’re doing great! 🙌

Hi Nokulunga,

Since you are doing math literacy (and are quite good at it too), you could study nursing.

What you need to look for is a list of entry requirements at the universities you would consider. They are slightly different for different universities. I have left links for UKZN and UJ (download the undergraduate prospectus) for you below. You'll find similar information for other universities online.

Most medical degrees as well as anything in science or engineering requires pure math instead of math literacy. If you are dead set to study for a degree that requires pure math, don't despair. There are providers where you can "upgrade" your matric to pure math.

I hope this helps! Good luck!
