Jerry’s Answer

First off, I'm not an immigration lawyer. I spent forty-eight years in front of a classroom. Mainly American government and politics. But also modern European history.

But with all that behind me, and working with hundres of colleagues and thousands of students I can at least offer something.

It all depends upon one's view of reality. Immigrants. Good? Bad? Why? And all else follows.

Therefore the pleasure one would get in such a profession depends upon their legal goal in talking on a case. And as long as one strives to reach that particular goal there will be satisfaction. Especially if your legal arguments are successful.

Of course I have no idea regarding your views on immigration. That's your business and you have to work that out for yourself.

As in when I would assign essays to my students I would only grade the quality of their essay writing. Many times they would offer opinions regarding assorted topics. This was not an issue with me and I never commented upon their opinions. Likewise, I never offered my opinions in lecture or comments on papers.

One further though: when it comes to immigration, in my opinion, the only people that have a real issue with immigrants are the original settlers of thousands of years ago. The rest of us are either immigrants or dependents thereof.

And so if you wish to be an immigration lawyer you have a lot of thinking to do.

Hey Victoria,

I am totally not an immigrant lawyer but here is what one told me.

You get to be a life-changer—literally. Whether it’s reuniting families, helping someone start a new chapter in a new country, or standing up for someone’s rights, your work directly transforms lives. Every client brings a unique story, which means every day is different—no boring routines! Plus, nothing beats the feeling of telling someone, “You’re approved!” (sniffing!) 🤧🥹
