Hey Mina!
Oh wow, first of all — already dreaming of becoming an author. Alright so You're definitely ahead of the game, and I absolutely love that you are asking to clear your path open. It's really great😊.
So, here's the deal: there's no "official" age to start preparing for college applications, but you're already doing the smartest thing by thinking about your future early. Most people don't even think about college until high school, so you're miles ahead.
If writing about K-pop, fantasy, drama, and romance is your passion — start writing right now. The best way to become an author is to be an author. Trust me dont think about how to become or what to do just start writing. It's the ultimate move!
So here is a little how you can kickstart your author journey:
1. Write Every Day (Even if it's Just for Fun):
Create little stories, poems, or even fanfiction about your favorite idols or fantasy worlds. The more you write, the better you'll get.
2. Start a Blog or Wattpad Page:
There are platforms like Wattpad where tons of young writers share their stories with the world — and some even get book deals from it!
3. Read Like a Bookworm on Caffeine:
Every great writer is also a great reader. Dive into fantasy books, K-pop blogs, and romance novels. Pay attention to how those stories are written — it's like getting a secret lesson without even realizing it.
4. Build Your Portfolio:
If you want to stand out when applying to college (or even before that), start saving your best stories in one place. You can make your own website or keep them in Google Docs.
5. Writing Programs for Teens:
Some writing camps and programs let middle school and high school students join. Look up Scholastic Art & Writing Awards or local writing clubs — you'd fit right in!
When the time comes for college apps, having a portfolio of your work will shine way brighter than just good grades.
Honestly, I can totally see your name on the shelves one day — Mina's K-pop Love Chronicles... how does that sound? 😇
If you ever want someone to read your stories or need more advice, I'll be cheering you on like your biggest fan. 📚All the best and keep moving forward Mina you got this better than anyone. Hope it helped! ✨

Most students in the U.S. begin applying to college during their senior year of high school, typically at 17 or 18 years old. However, the main requirement for college admission is a high school diploma or an equivalent, such as a GED. Some students start college much earlier—like Michael Kearney, who graduated at just 10 years old—often by completing online schooling or skipping multiple grades. If you're looking to develop your writing skills before college, there are several pre-college programs available, including Duke TIP, Johns Hopkins CTY, Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, Young Authors Academy (Writopia Lab), Brave Writer Online Classes, and NaNoWriMo Young Writers Program. These programs can help you gain experience and strengthen your writing before officially starting your college journey.

You can explore colleges and writing opportunities now, but formal college applications happen after high school. Start with writing contests and workshops to build your skills as an author!

Thank you for your question. I am glad to hear that you have a wide range of interest. It seems slightly early to look for college application. However, you can start thinking about what careers you have interest first.
Below are my suggestions :
1. Think about what you have interest, e.g. hobbies, favorite subjects, etc. and identify related careers.
E.g. If you like write, would you like to be a author, journalist, media creator, script writer, KOL, etc.
If you have interest in music, would you like to be a singer, musician, musician, music composer, music producer, etc.
2. Find out more on these careers and determine what you have interest
3. Speak to someone who are working in these careers. Seek guidance from your mentor, school career counsellor, your parents, etc.
4. Shortlist 1-2 careers you would like to pursue.
5. Explore the entry criteria of relevant subject in colleges
Hope this helps! Good Luck!
May Almighty God bless you!

Hello Mina,
There isn't an age requirement, but you don't want to apply too early. In most cases there is a fee to apply to colleges and some colleges only keep your application valid for a short time. Definitely a good idea to start looking at schools ahead of time and seeing what their programs require, this way you can even start taking some college courses while you're in high school if that's an option for you (it was at my high school) and start earning some college credits. Just be sure the credits you get in high school transfer to the college you end up deciding to go to. I'd say you'd be safe to wait until senior year before you start worrying about applying.
Another important note; you're only going to be 12 once, so make sure you remember to BE TWELVE!!! I think it's great you're already thinking so thoroughly about your future, it shows you've got great initiative and critical thinking skills which will put you above the competition when it comes time to apply. But graduation is still a few years away, and the college life is NOT an easy one; fun, but hard work. So remember to take things slow and try not to worry yourself too much with choices you don't have to make for a few years :)
