If I have a small business currently in high school, but plan to attend college next year, would it be manageable to continue the business right away in college Would it be better for me to take a break for the first semester to figure out my life in college or would it be okay to continue right away? #spring25?

Currently in 12th grade, but starting as a freshman at a college about 4 hours from home next semester.

Meredith, this is a fantastic question. My recommendation is if you are passionate about your small business, I would continue! You will find in undergraduate schooling there are opportunities to support the things you love! I would check in with yourself often to ensure you are not overwhelmed with the transition to college, and make a decision based off of where you are and how you are feeling. You may find new customer's as your network grows at your new school! Congratulations, this is an exciting time for you!

Hi Meredith, It would be manageable to continue the business and begin college if you prepared in advanced and stayed organized. The fact that you are considering this now is great! Start planning now. Can you automate anything in your small business? Do you have a backup trained in case you need extra help? You could potentially take on an intern to help out when needed. In terms of college, you can pick out classes now and maybe even do a little bit of reading or research ahead of time. Either way, be sure to have great time management and stay organized. Use a calendar, block your time, prioritize your tasks, and ask for help when needed! You got this!

Hi Meredith!

It's incredible that you've already started a business at such a young age. That's a massive achievement and sets you ahead in many ways. When I began my journey at Verizon at the age of 21, everything felt so new and unfamiliar. I can only imagine how beneficial it would have been to have your kind of experience early on.

Transitioning from high school to college is a big step. If your business demands a lot of your time, consider focusing on college first. After the first semester, you can find ways to blend your business into your routine. Being away from home for the first time can be challenging, especially when home is 4 hours away, so taking a semester to adjust and soak in your education might really help. The knowledge you gain in college can make your business even better!

Good luck with whatever you choose! You're amazing, and you've got this!
