How do you network/make connections with college professors in schools with large classroom sizes? #Spring25

I'm a high school senior planning on attending UC Berkeley with film and media studies major! I'd love to work in PR or marketing for the entertainment industry. I've heard that making connections and networking is key to getting jobs in this industry, so I was wondering how I can do that while in college!

Hey Racquel! I totally get that. Big classes can make it harder for professors to know your name or even recognize your face. One thing that really helps is stopping by their office hours to introduce yourself and ask questions about anything you didn’t fully understand in lecture. Even just saying hi when you see them around campus makes a difference. You can also talk to them about your projects or ask for guidance and they’ll start to remember you over time. Don’t forget to join clubs and student orgs related to film and media too. I used to do all of this and now most of my professors know me by name and face! Hope that helps!

Hi Racquel, the best piece of advice is to sit up front in the classroom to stay engaged and allow the teacher to put a face to a name. It works like a charm every time! Some professors also have something called "office hours" where they allow you to visit and ask questions about the work you are doing. Go, pick your professors' brains and ask for career advice. But remember to always remain professional.
