How will my classes in IT at a Texas university today help me be successful in the future?

I know I am not very mature and need to grow up. I sure need to mature and understand life better, just in general. I really need to find my dedication and drive, build myself a lot of self-discipline and drive, and really understand what kind of careers might fit my interests.
I completed two Associate's degrees at a community college in Computer Networking Systems Administration and general Associate's degrees. currently pursuing Bachelors in IT. I had previously been interested in GIS and AI and became very excited. However, the mojo is no longer there for GIS/AI. I graduate with a bachelor's degree in December 2025 and I am lost. ?

How will my classes in IT at a Texas university today help me be successful in the future? I need to begin thinking about possible future jobs, the skills I need to do that work, and how the education I am getting at college fits in. How is it relevant to what I want to do in the future?’ How can I research the type of higher education or on-the-job training needed to pursue that path? I feel lost as to what i aspire to be and what i am going to do for my life and career? How much education or how many degrees would I need for my chosen career?
I repeatedly ask myself, " What is my dream? Why is this your dream?" and I ignore the question with a passion because I do not know and am scared and afraid to know. Thinking about it gives me jitters. I would like to reflect on how to become a competitive person, whether in sports, education, or by challenging myself to do tasks.

I see others & i instantly realize " That ain't me " or say to myself " wish i had that kinda skill". I would realize how much I dislike maths, and I would never be an engineer (civil or otherwise). Then I'd inquire about general salaries I could expect in various career fields and go "I want to be that," only to find that ain't working. Overall l like gaming and i can play games all day long but i ain't building games for others i love playing online games. That's it. I need passion for something and I ain't got it. What to do, what to do? I am lost. #SPRING25

In our ever-changing world, our industry and we ourselves are also ever-changing. Figuring out what I wanted to be for fourty years was terrifying, but figuring out what I found interesting to explore tomorrow (and next week) was much easier. As I started doing the latter, I gathered insight into what I did & didn't want, which then led me to feel more comfortable figuring out what 'next year' might look like. Gathering more & more information taught me that I didn't need all my answers today, and that it's okay for my answers to change over time.

So, you could start by asking yourself: Which classes have I found most interesting? What have I been especially good at? Which skills does the industry most need?

And then, start asking others: What do professionals with a skillset & background like yourself in the field do? Is there a way to shadow that work?

The insight gathered, both in yourself as well as of others, will at the bare minimum help you say 'no' to many things, and hopefully get you a step closer to 'maybe' or even 'yes'.

As a side note: The game industry needs plenty of folks in IT ;) I work with talented IT professionals helping us build the infrastructure required to develop games every day, across a wide variety of roles & responsibilities!

Actually success has no standard measurement. In the end you ask what you need when you are all alone and no financial suport from anybody. Do you want a job or build your own start-up. Try rearranging some facts and imagine a few outcomes this might give you an idea to start on something like a job, a company or leisure volunteering.. Sometime walk around and see the bustle of life, while this might seem like what artists might do, it might give you a different view of life.

Many of us have different interests, not just one passion. College is a great time to explore these interests. Sign up for lots of different classes and join various clubs or activities. This will help you find out what you really enjoy and where your strengths are.

Once you know what interests you, choose classes that help you become an expert in those areas. Don’t hesitate to try new subjects you know little about. Aim to excel in whatever field you pick.

Stay curious and soak up knowledge. Read a lot, keep learning, and talk to many people in your interest areas. Remember: Do what you love, and love what you do.
