Hello, Marielle !

The best path to becoming a Book Editor would be to have a college Major in English, Journalism or Communication. These are the usual degrees people have that do what you want to do. You wouldn't just be editing novels, though, because you'll probably be working for a publishing house and they'll need you to edit whatever they need.

In addition to your Major in college, you will need to take courses in literature, creative writing, journalism, business communication, and digital publishing. This will prepare you for the career. Many people applying for editing jobs have the degree so I highly recommend that college is your first step. Employers in this field prefer applicants that have a Bachelors Degree.

Once you are in college, you will get opportunities for projects and perhaps Internships that will further prepare you for this career. You can also reach out to publishing firms and offer to do volunteer work of any kind so you can get experience and start building up your resume which will be needed for any job in this field.

Search online for writers groups, competitions and organizations that you can be involved with. Find your local writer community and participate in the writing and publishing community where you live.

Seek online editing tools to practice editing. Go to the websites Wordy, Text Editor, Microsoft 365, CapCut, SmallSEOTools, and Pagestools.

I'm not and editor but wanted to contribute this advice to start you off. I hope it helps and I wish you all the best for this wonderful career interest !
