What is the best way to further my career status?
I plan on becoming a principal after being a teacher for a few years. What is the best way of doing that? Is there additional schooling mandated for that?

Hello,
Thank you for your question, love the fact that you have a plan that is so important. The best way could go a few ways for you but the one I think is the most beneficial is doing for years undergrad in Education then get you experience in the class for as long as you see fit while getting your masters in administration. Some schools bump teachers up if they just apply for the position but then your clueless and don't know how to handle things. I hope you found this helpful.
best wishes,

Although state standards vary, the core qualifications are generally the same. I will use my experience in Louisiana as a guide. In Louisiana, you must have a Masters Degree and 5 years teaching. When I decided I wanted to go in to administration, a spoke with an assistant principal and asked if I could observe them during my planning period. I also aske if there were additional tasks I could take on to prepare for a role in administration. I started performing semi administrative duties which were beneficial to the administration and to myself. In fact, my first administrative job was as the assistant principal to the person I started working with as an "intern". Besides being a good teacher and a reliable employee, you must stand out. Volunteer to help in anyway you can and be visible. Making positive and collaborative relationships with your administration and fellow teachers is also important. Good luck!
