Brian’s Answer

Employers are eager to connect with potential employees sooner than ever, with some even offering internships to high school students. It's a great idea to start pursuing internships as early as you feel ready. When I was in high school, I wanted to be a Veterinarian, so I interned with our local vet. I discovered things I loved and also realized there were parts I wasn't quite prepared for. A teacher noticed I was good at math and physics and suggested I try Engineering. In college, I participated in a co-op program, alternating between working and studying each semester for five years. This experience was crucial because it helped me understand what type of Engineering I didn't want to pursue, which is just as important as knowing what you do want. It eventually led me to a career in Engineering Communication Systems. So, aim to secure internships in fields that interest you early on. This will help you figure out if you truly enjoy that area.

My suggestion is to get an internship as soon as possible. The internship could be paid or unpaid. The main goal is to get the experience and to find out your real interests.

Although most believe your Junior year of college is the most ideal year for internships, but it's important to look for experiences all through your college years. The more you prepare, the more you'll impress future employers. This shows your dedication and commitment to being ready for your career.

It's never too early to look for internships or other opportunities to get experience in your field. You can start by working for your school paper or a publication in your local community. The more opportunities you have, the better.

One emerging platform is Substack. It's for independent journalists, allowing you to write about whatever you want and amass paid or unpaid subscribers. Good luck!

Jun Shan’s Answer

It's never too early to start searching for an internship. Many chances are available right at your college. Companies often seek juniors, hoping to hire them full-time after graduation. Begin your search early to make sure you don't miss any application deadlines.

Donna "Crissie"’s Answer

Jump into an internship as soon as you find one that matches your skills. The more time you spend interning, the more you'll learn and gain real-world experience. It's also a fantastic way to chip away at school debt, especially if you land a paid internship, while boosting your career journey.
