Maintaining a healthy school and work schedule in college takes intentional planning and self-awareness. Here are a few strategies that have helped many students find balance:

1. Build a weekly time-blocked schedule.
Use a digital calendar or planner to map out your week. Block off time for classes, work shifts, studying, meals, exercise, and rest. Treat your personal well-being like a non-negotiable appointment.

2. Prioritize rest and recovery.
Sleep isn’t optional—it's foundational. Aim for 7–8 hours a night, and don’t be afraid to schedule short breaks and downtime during the day to stay refreshed.

3. Use a "3-task rule" for daily focus.
Each day, choose the three most important tasks to complete. This helps prevent overwhelm and keeps your efforts aligned with your top priorities.

4. Communicate with your employers and professors.
Be upfront about your schedule so they understand your availability. Flexibility often comes from clarity and respect.

5. Don’t forget your “why.”
Revisit your personal goals regularly. Whether it’s graduating debt-free or pursuing your dream career, your “why” will keep you grounded and motivated.

Brandyn recommends the following next steps:

Try using free tools like Google Calendar or Notion to stay organized.

I would start by getting clear with yourself on what you need to feel healthy! Is it exercise, meditation, certain types of foods, quiet time, social time? Once you know what you need, make sure you are making that part of your routine. Schedule "health" time like you would schedule time for work and schedule time for classes.

Work/Life Balance is key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle at work and school. Make the effort to make time for you whatever that may be, a walk, exercise, read a book. Do something that makes you feel re-energized. The key takeaway here is to definitely make time for you.

One thing is take a mixture of classes, so don’t try to load up on your more advanced or difficult classes in one semester. Try to mix in any general study classes that are required, and try to find classes that you find interesting or might enjoy taking.
Now as far as work it depends on the type of work that you will be doing. It would be ideal to get a job on campus or through work study because they will work with you, and your class schedule more readily. And depending on where you go to school some cities are just really college study friendly so even the jobs near the campus will work with you. Also, look at your syllabus a lot of time your major assignments and tests will be listed or posted for you to give notice to your job that you may need a light schedule those weeks, or times when you have a light schedule start working on your large school projects.
And , then do as the others have stated make time for yourself, and do things you enjoy daily to unwind.
