As I begin this new journey of nursing starting in the fall it has allowed me to become introspective of my "Why" and the purpose of why I want to become a nurse and how I can make the most difference. I want to eventually open up my own clinic or more so a wellness center because I am also a licensed medical aesthetician and I want to bring bring both careers together as a business. I also want to provide care to women in underserved communities which is why I want to get my masters as a nurse practitioner to make the most difference .

Hi Jindriska,
That sounds like an amazing and impactful vision! Combining your skills as a licensed medical aesthetician with a career as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to open a wellness center is a fantastic idea, especially if you’re passionate about serving women in underserved communities.

There are definitely NPs who have successfully opened their own clinics or wellness centers, blending healthcare and holistic wellness. Many start by gaining clinical experience in both primary care and aesthetic practices, which gives them the skills to manage both aspects of the business. Once they become NPs, they often seek certifications in aesthetics or holistic care to further integrate those services into their practice.

Your plan to get your master’s as an NP is a strong move, as it will not only give you advanced clinical skills but also the autonomy to diagnose, prescribe, and manage care. Depending on your state, you may have full practice authority as an NP, allowing you to open your own practice without physician oversight. States like Arizona, New Mexico, and Oregon are known for this level of practice independence.

To build your dream, focus on:

Clinical Experience: Work in settings that build both your primary care and aesthetic skills.

Business Knowledge: Take courses or attend workshops on healthcare entrepreneurship and clinic management.

Networking: Connect with NPs who own practices. Social media groups, LinkedIn, and professional organizations like the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) are great places to start.

Community Engagement: Volunteer or work in underserved areas to build connections and understand the specific needs of the community you want to serve.
