What is the best part about going through college and succeeding to be a healthcare provider? #Spring25
I am a rising college student who aspires to be a pharmacist. I know that the courses will be challenging, along with taking dedication and commitment. Therefore, I’d love to know other healthcare providers perspectives to motivate and inspire me.

What year are you enrolled at in college? Are you enrolled in a college that already has a PharmD program or are you planning on applying to outside colleges? My recommendation would be to cast as wide a net with your college course choices and your extracurricular activities. Obviously every pharmacy program has prerequisites that need to be taken and straight A's are the only way to be competitive when applying. I would also plan on backup professions to pivot to if you don't gain entrance into a PharmD program. There are plenty of programs that have similar requirements and school lengths that are equally rewarding or might be even more empowering than pharmacy: Podiatry, Physical Therapy, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant. The fact is that pharmacy is at a critical point where the industry is being controlled by huge retail pharmacy chains, pharmacy benefits managers and drug manufacturers. Patients are suffering because they can't afford the medications and pharmacists have less time to care for them because their employers are placing too many demands on the profession.

Interesting question! Yes, the coursework is challenging, but nearly every position within the field of Healthcare is rewarding.
Obviously there are challenges within each discipline, but when you are in a field that fits your talents, abilities, and dreams, you will find satisfaction in knowing that you are helping contribute to the well-being of others and that is a great feeling. Don't spend too much time worrying about it if you really feel led to a specific area. Just focus on learning and doing your best and let it work out!
