Hi! I’m an 18-year-old student, and I’m very interested in becoming an FBI agent one day. What are the best college majors or degree programs that would help me get into the FBI, and are there specific scholarships I should apply for to help cover school costs #Spring25?

Hi! I’m an 18-year-old student, and I’m very interested in becoming an FBI agent one day. What are the best college majors or degree programs that would help me get into the FBI, and are there specific scholarships I should apply for to help cover school costs?

A little more about me:

I’m passionate about law enforcement and criminal justice.

I enjoy problem-solving, paying attention to details, and helping people.

I’m planning to start college soon and would like advice about what to focus on now to be a strong applicant for the FBI later.

I’m also looking for scholarships to help fund my education, especially ones that might connect to public service careers.

Any advice would really help! Thank you! 🙏 #Spring25

There are several paths you can take, like accounting, law, and law enforcement. You can work towards becoming a CPA, earn a law degree, or explore other law enforcement careers to join the FBI!

You are on the right track with school. Very important to the FBI. Use the time in school to gain some life experience like summer jobs, volunteer during school and joining clubs. Take courses that interest you as well. My time in College and University with alternative courses aiding me later as a police officer and detective. I was interested in Anthropology and Psychology. These transferred later into spending two years working in Behavioural Sciences and 6 years as a polygraph examiner. Stay focused but don't ignore options either as they will make you stand out. Any Job is experience whether it is in customer service, helping others, showing hard work and diligence. Always be prepared to pivot as your goals may not be those of your bosses at the FBI. Do the work, show patience, show your interest and eventually you will end up where you want to go.

There is no one single path to becoming a special agent. Having a specialization in languages, cyber and technology, accounting may be very helpful, but getting a college degree is most important. Best of luck!
