The average NFL career is length is 3.3 years with ~$1 million a year, pre-taxes and agent fees. What will you do afterward? How will you make money? You could be like Rob Gronkowski and work hard getting sponsorships and endorsements so you can save your salary and live of the interest. You could be like some other players and get finance degrees so you could manage your money yourself afterwards. You could get a business degree and be able to works in a multitude of roles. Use that college scholarship to your advantage to set yourself up for success after your career. Whatever you chose just remember, in 2009, there was a report that 78% of retired players declared bankruptcy or gone through significant financial stress.

Make sure you select a college that you will excel in your position, get the media attention, and stay out of trouble. the NFL is a business and watch what occurs at the combines, Pro Days, and the interviews prior to the draft. You have to be balanced, athleticism, maturity, and personality. Its the triangle of life that will make you attractive to NFL teams, as well as getting an honest agent. Good luck!

Besides doing well on the field, you need to study & do well in school. To go to college, you have to have the grades and SAT/ACT to be accepted. Additionally you need a backup plan due to the low odds of making it to the NFL. You should also look at universities that have put more players in the NFL when making your college choice. Good Luck!
