I have worked along-side Industrial Maintenance professionals - following the route of getting related certifications - especial HVAC systems - is a good to way to start working early at an entry level to gain hands-on-experience.
But if you take a BS degree program for Industrial Technology or Industrial Engineering - then you'll start at a much higher salary, doing more planning and designing type work.
