Susie’s Answer

Hi Maria, along with the answer above, you should start with looking at your work that you have created and break it up into different media, and forms. I.e. you can do some logos, maybe corporate identities. Maybe you've done some illustration work, some paintings, brochures etc - try to create some new content or "mock" clients to show off your skills if you feel you don't have enough examples of certain things. If you find that you don't have enough of a certain kind of media or variety then take some time to make some more things or play around with new media or tools like your adobe suite (for example) and use it as an opportunity to pick up new skills.

Jennifer’s Answer

Have you taken some art/design classes? If so, pick maybe 10 pieces of your best work. I have a version of my portfolio on my ipad. I also have a few pieces (mini version) in a pdf that I sometimes attach to my resume.

You can also create an online portfolio with website building apps/sites.
Thank you comment icon Good morning Jennifer, I have a few pieces but it's not strong enough to go into a Portfolio yet. Marla

AJ’s Answer

Hello Marla,

You can start both a physical portfolio or a digital version. A portfolio is a professional way of showing off your skills and great works. This can be done via website or personal blog like the ones created daily in WordPress. WordPress offers a free-version of their services--where you can blog your own graphic design and share it with the world. Having a digital blog means you can have 24 hour access as long as you have internet service.
Both a great and useful tools to have. You should determine which works best with your currently lifestyle and future plans.

From what I've read, the UX Design certificate from Google's partnership with Coursera offers help on designing your portfolio. In addition, you can get the certificate, which could be a decent boon to your career. You can see the program at grow. google. com.
