Brandon’s Answer

Hello Jessica,

You should be proud of what you do and feel good about the difference you are making - if you focus on keeping yourself happy, whether it be through continued learning, diversified experiences, volunteering, or simply doing a good job, then your career will follow.

In other words, your career is a journey and your goals will often change - focus on what makes you happy and everything else will fall inline.

Best of luck!

Vinay’s Answer

It depends where are you in your career path, beginning, middle or toward the end. I have 8 more productive years before I can technically retire and collect SS. However, I have had a very successful career and I would like to continue as long as I am useful and productive. Most important thing is to give your best, stay employed/busy with something that you enjoy and like. I work for Medical Device Industry that is considered less recession proof as compared to other fields. So, planning to stay in Medical Field, continue teaching Medical Device regulations and audit courses and hopefully that will keep me busy till my retirement and may be thereafter.

Madalina’s Answer

Hi Jessica,

Thank you for this interesting question!

When I think about my future career, I actually think about finding new ways to improve myself on different areas. I believe that you cannot be successful if you do not constantly expand your knowledge and seek for new experiences. Career is a big word. Behind it you will find: mistakes, learnings, hard work, curiosity, consistency and many more.

If you find yourself at the beginning of your career, then I suggest you to think about your strengths, talents and areas you may want to explore. Based on these, you can then choose something that is really exciting for you, something that will help you grow both as a professional and as a human being. In order to excel in what you do, you have to find something that fulfills you.

I wish you the best of luck!

Cindie’s Answer

Well, Jessica, that is an interesting question, "What is the one thing on your mind about your future career?" Frankly, it's figuring out what it is I want to do. I turned 55 this week. I've been with the company I'm currently working for for almost 20 years. I've been able to do a lot of interesting jobs. The company has also paid for my masters degree in business and they are now paying for my certificate in Cybersecurity. I've been very fortunate, it is true. I would like to retire from the company if possible in 5 years, but I think I am certain that I will continue to work, but I'm not sure what I want to put my efforts to. I'm seriously considering starting up a non profit so that I can help others in need. After I finish the Cybersecurity degree, I plan to start taking classes on how to set up a non profit. I'm also interested in becoming a life coach -- helping others to figure out how to accomplish their goals in life. So, that is where I am right now...in a bit of a transition space. I think it is so wonderful that I am in this day in age where there are so many opportunities that I can pursue yet at the same time it is also difficult to pick a path.

I hope you are well and that you have lots of opportunities from which to choose as well. More than anything, I hope you find satisfaction in what you do and that it helps you to become the best you that you can be!

Darin’s Answer

This really is a rather interesting question. Well what's on my mind is what kind of competition I'm going to face with what I want to do in the future and if i'm even taking the right path. I believe I'm taking the right path to where I want to advance on to and I've had people tell me I'm on the right path and my company has opportunities to advance my education that they will pay for but right now COVID has really left me unsure what's going to happen. COVID has changed a lot about the society we are in right now and who even knows when things will get back to normal, or whatever normal will be. COVID has really affected my job a lot. I know I'll still have a job when this is all over but still. With you if you have an idea on where you want to go reach out to someone in that field and ask questions. Ask what you can do to make your your future become a reality. Ask what's required. Ask all the questions you need. CareerVillage is definitely a good start. Wish you all the best on your future Jessica

Will my job today continue to help me grow. If the answer is no, then what do I need to do to put myself in that position.
