Hey Noah,
It's great that you are already thinking ahead to your future and to pursuing your goals. As a Fish store manager, you would really be entering the world of Retail Management and that can be a very rewarding career. Management is required in all aspects of life and it is an integral part of all businesses. You would make shopping a pleasurable experience and your customers leave the store with a smile, Retail Management helps customers shop without any difficulty.
How much you will make as a Retail Manager is hard to say, there are many factors that are involved in the salary that you would receive, such as how large is the store, Is it it a chain store or is it locally owned and operated. Research the management jobs in your area to see what the common salary is, normally it can range from 42,000 and on up again depending on different factors. One thing you most certainly want to keep in mind is , is this something that brings me joy and am I fulfilled. It sounds like you like fish and if you have a good knowledge of the different species and the best way to care for them then you are more marketable, meaning you can reach that Fish Store Managers position and be very happy, or you can branch off into Marine Biology , helping different breeds of fish throughout the country and the world. The possibilities are endless , work hard become knowledgeable and chase your dreams Noah.

Margarett recommends the following next steps:

Speak to local Fish store managers, find out from them what they have done to get into that position, ask about the education they needed and look into taking some animal biology classes , and joining local groups dedicated to saltwater and or freshwater fish in your area
See if you can shadow the manager for a day with your parents or guardians permission , see what it is that he/she does on a daily basis . Watch the interaction between the manager and the staff, as well as the customers. Ask questions .
Talk to your local Veterinarian, get some information on what you would need to do to keep your fish healthy and safe. Talk to a Marine Biologist at a local college find out what they do, how they interact with the animals.
Read some good books on the subject of Fish like Freshwater Aquariums for Dummies, Marine Aquarium Handbook, What Fish? a Buyers guide to Tropical Fish
If you haven't already look up and learn about Jacques Cousteau, he was a conservationist who sailed the world for much of the late 20th century, educating millions about the earths oceans and inhabitants.

Eileen’s Answer

That depends on the fish store. Most fish stores are retail and would make something similar to retail managers, but if you have a strong knowledge in fish care, biology, aquarium science, chemistry, even plumbing, that will help you advance. Of course, ANY retail and customer service experience is helpful too!
