[closed] How can someone balance the different areas of health to be a better management employee?
Hello,
My name is Aimee and I am on a quest to achieve balance as part of my yoga philosophy that I like to follow. I have learned in my wellness class that the following is important, or should be important, in life:
1)intellectual health
2) social health
3)physical health
4)Spiritual health
5) Financial health
6)Mental health
I believe that if someone cannot forget all of these, than s/he is in a great shape to rule her or his life and take on the day with the right positive attitude. I also think that managers and leaders can use this thinking to achieve the optimal amount of success in the professional workplace. My question is, what are some ways to do this and organize activities for an overall healthy lifestyle?
Thank you. #management #health #time-management #organization #lifestyle #fitness

Hi Aimee,
As I'm sure you already know, what works for one person doesn't work for another and balancing your work and personal life in a healthy way is something each one of us needs to figure out on their own because we all have different priorities.
However, here are some tips that work for me:
1. Intellectual health: No matter how exhilarating your job is, you will eventually get used to it. Make sure you have something else that challenges your mind. Personally, I sign up for a new course every year to learn something I know nothing about. In these days of MOOCs that is an easy thing to do. Not only will it keep you on your toes, it also helps your career development.
Social health: Know where work ends. Don't be tempted to work overtime all the time, or answer e-mails that come through on your phone. Be strict with what time is yours and enjoy it. Make an effort to meet up with people, organise things to look forward to.
Physical health: Have an exercise routine. I know this sounds obvious, but if you force yourself to stick to it, it becomes a habit and you will feel so much better for it. Go for a lunchtime run, an early yoga class, take the dog for a long walk (if you have one), anything, but stick to it.
Financial health: Budget. budget, budget. That is all I can say about it. Set aside a grocery and leisure budget and stick anything that is left over into a savings account. It's amazing what a little bit of money set aside can do for your peace of mind.
I left spiritual and mental health to the last, because I believe they go hand in hand. For me, the practice of mindfulness has been extremely helpful and these are the main points that have helped me the most:
Do one thing at a time and think about one thing at a time. For example, when you are busy working on a project, it is easy to get caught up in all the things that are still left to do - it is useless to think like that. Break everything down in manageable pieces of work, focus on them and do them well. The project will take care of itself that way. You should apply this to your personal life too; when you are relaxing, allow yourself to relax, there should be no worrying about other things
Stop procrastinating. If something needs done, just do it. If you don't, you will just worry about it and as a result whatever you ARE working on won't have your full attention.
Be nice to yourself. Sometimes we do stuff that is less than ideal. So what? Everyone does. Allow yourself to feel sad, disappointed, angry, ... but remind yourself that what is done is done and there is no point in punishing yourself for something that is in the past.
And most importantly: Sometimes, just stop, take a minute, breathe and look around you. I mean, really really look at things to see what they look like. Have some curiosity. Appreciate the hustle and bustle in the city, the different shades of green in a tree canopy, the smell of an early morning when it has rained all night. It's amazing what you don't notice when you are busy :)
Good luck with all your future endeavours, I hope this helps :)
