I would like to add to that you can apply for many scholarships online. Websites such as FastWeb (https://www.fastweb.com/) and Niche (https://www.niche.com/colleges/scholarships/) can help you find scholarships that you can apply for.
Many of these scholarships will require you to write an essay. My college counselor recommended that, rather than writing a different essay for each application, that you could write one essay (or maybe a few) and put a lot of work into it. Then, you submit it to as many scholarships as you can. The goal is to write one quality essay, and then submit it in quantity. Of course, each time you submit it in a different scholarship, you should make some changes to make it fit. But having multiple paragraphs ready will go a long way.
Applying for many scholarships increases the chance that you will actually get one. While the pre-written essay technique will not work for every scholarship, it will help for some. If you write several paragraphs about yourself and your experiences, you can insert them into a scholarship essay application.
One more thing: if you have a talent (such as in art or in sports), you might be able to get a scholarship related to it. There are also scholarships that require creative skills (such as movie-making), and if you have them, it might be a fun way to use them.

If you need help applying for a scholarship, I recommend contacting your school. If there is a guidance counselor, I'd start there. Otherwise, ask a teacher for help (they might not be able to help, but they might point you to other resources in your school that can).
