[closed] Any tips for professionalism for phone interviews?

Hello,

My name is Aimee and I am a business senior at Concordia University. I am a proud Tornado at Concordia University with a 2 year degree in administration and a bachelor's degree on the way. The concentration is in managment, and I am on a quest to learn more about conducting business. So far, I have some general volunteer experience and work experience in customer service. I would like to ask what the ettiquete rules of phone interviews are. When people search for jobs and they are expected to answer a phone call, are there any special things that make you stick out above other people?

Thank you for your suggestions,
Aimee

Hello Aimee,

Very good question. I think that I am in a good place to answer as I have previously been subject to a phone interview (and I got the job!). I must admit that it can very stressful as you cannot judge the interviewers reactions to your answers as you cannot see them, and we all know that body language is 70% of communication. But not to worry, I have come up with a few points that might help you:
Always be on time to the minute – there are no valid excuses as to why you are late for a phone interview.
Always ensure that you are in a quiet place.
Try to close yourself off in a room to ensure that there are no random interruptions.
Speak with a smile on your face, smiles can be heard in your voice over the phone.
Keep your answers brief and to the point until you are asked to elaborate.

I hope this helps, good luck!

Hi Aimee,

I believe if you are gonna get interviewed through phone from some company, I would recommend they wont look much into your phone etiquette, cause you are not gonna be a in a call taking role after your job, but still you can concentrate on basic things on a call that needs to be done like holding procedure, greeting other, how to end the call. That can make a client believe you are a real professional in what you are doing! like deception!

Other than phone etiquette, you can concentrate on which job you are applying for and getting prepared on the subject is what matters more.

Good Luck!
