How do I get involved in Theatre?

What is the best way to become involved in big productions, whether on stage, on in films?

Thank you comment icon Most acting opportunities depend on what city you're currently in. If you live kind of near the LA/NYC/CHI area then you're in the heart of the acting scene. I'd try Backstage.com to look up film/theater auditions around you, even if it's just an extra in a commercial. Also, connections are everything. Participate in your local theater community, socialize with other people reaching for the same goal, and eventually you'll find someone higher up in the ranks. Not an A-list celebrity, but maybe someone who has ties to bigger projects than what you're doing now. If you don't live in those three major cities, still be a part of your city/town community theater program. Experience will help if you choose to move out in the future. Hope this helps! Michael

Hi Dublin, A great place to start is in your local community. There are many theatre's around that are volunteer driven. They usually have monthly meetings and/or auditions for upcoming productions. You can contact them or stop in for a group meeting. For films, you will have to work on a portfolio. If you have the funding, you could seek out a manager to assist you as well.
