How to have a work life balance?

I am a partner working in same career for the past 19 years in Kuwait. so i am already exhausted.
I am looking forward to change my work style and have a life balance. #work

Hossam you're working with a partner which you feel you could do better if you had control over how the work was done. Let's face it, If your current employer isn't interested in your ideas, it may be a sign that you should launch your own enterprise. Whether you are looking for a flexible lifestyle, are eager to innovate, or simply want more control over your work and earning potential, there are many benefits to running your own business. When you build your own business, you do what you want, how you want, when you want. You develop the product or service to the level you think is best. You have systems and routines that work best for you. Other benefits include flexibility, financial rewards, the opportunity to innovate, and a chance to impact your community. Finding a career with a healthy work-life balance in any industry is a challenge. This is especially true for those who are looking at business careers, where the hours spent working should be balanced by time spent with friends and family, keeping fit, traveling, and doing other fulfilling hobbies.

Understand what you want work/life balance to be. Know what you want out of life.

- schedule your time, be organized, and be intentional with your time
- PRIORITIZE what's important to you and your growth. set boundaries and stick to them.
- use your vacation time! start traditions for yourself so you have something to look forward to in your personal life.
- don't take your work home, leave work at work, make sure to unplug at the end of the day.
- find a company that matches your priorities. or start your own. having work that you enjoy makes it easier to balance.
- let go of perfectionism. don't be afraid to ask for help at work or at home.
- have someone help you be accountable to prioritizing yourself. learn when you need to take a mental health day or take a day to take care of doctor's appointments
- have a hobby outside of work that helps you relax
- make sure to have supportive people surrounding you :)
- what work/life balance means to you is going to change with what stage of life you are in

Hi Hossam,

I commend you for recognizing the need to make a change in this area. I remember watching my father commit hours upon hours to his job which in retrospect did not advance his career in any measurable way. However the lack of work/life balance did negatively affect his family relationships and his physical health. No one at the end of their lives wishes they would have spent more time in the office. I would suggest taking a personal financial inventory. Do you need to work excessive hours to meet your basic needs? Hopefully the answer is no, but if you must I would strongly suggest exploring other employment opportunities.

Reconnecting to your non-work related passions/interests can feel awkward at first. You may even feel guilty for not working as much as you had previously. But remember that being able to get away from your work can actually make you more energized and efficient when you are working. Additionally, you will have the peace of mind in knowing that you are no longer neglecting those area of your life that are ultimately more important.

My apologies you don't have a work-life balance!! Due to the pandemic and working from home (virtual-if you're virtual)can be a challenge and it has its pros and cons. I recommend that you re-assess your career track and figure out do you want to continue your career and do you still have passion for this career. We tend to get burnt-out- we have done things for so long and because we're you used to and it condition to it!! Find you what makes you smile at the end of the day (or when you have that aha moment) what is that you want to do and how do you feel when doing it-does it inspires you or is it draining. For now, I would carve out some time where you not back to back in meetings and have some time where you catching up on your emails and when you have time for lunch or break-step away for the computer. Or go outside and take a walk. Go in a quiet space that's not near the computer and have your lunch. I hope you can work towards having a work balance or find more balance in your new role!

You don't want to look back at your life and regret not having enjoyed anything outside work. Fix it while you can.
There is always a choice and always an option for you to switch to a job with more work-life balance.
What will also help is for you to make note of what you want to spend your time on when you are not working. Set some goals. This will help you drive towards a better quality of life.

Perception of limited work-lie balance can come from multiple thoughts.
1. You don't enjoy the work and hence any time you put in at work feels like a burden
2. You don't actively engage in other activities that you enjoy
3. You feel you should be doing several things perfectly which might not be realistic.

Depending on what feels more relevant for you, you can try to make changes. Try talking with your manager to see if team can support in any way.

Balancing your professional and personal life can be really challenging but it's essential. Sometimes our desire to succeed professional push us to set aside our well-being. I advise you to take some time or moment to think to assess where you are vs your goals and priorities. At times, your family may need you, and other times, you may need to travel for work, it's tough to choose which one comes first but you have to be flexible to redirect and assess your needs on any day to find that work-life balance.

Prioritizing your health first and foremost will make you a better employee and person. It can be as simple as daily meditation or exercise.

Work-life balance is essential over the long term. If you find something you like to do, you end up working more, but it is not as draining.

I recommend looking at what makes you happy and what are thing things you like to do. Then find a career that lines up with that.

Also, a book that I started reading that may help is "The 5 AM Club"

Work/life/balance is definitely important to your overall health and well being. If you are not well, you will not perform well. I would advise you to take stock of your situation and assess your most important values on how you want to spend your time. Set boundaries and stick to them, do not allow others to make you feel guilty for needing personal time. Learn to say no. If you find yourself constantly working late, say something. Does your company have an existing work life balance policy or some type of employee assistance program? If so, I would start there. I hope this helps.

It's likely you will need to research a company that supports your work life balance goals. Do some research online about the culture of the company on sites like glassdoor.com. See if there are videos online of former employees describing their experiences and look for patterns and themes in their descriptions.
