Having a legal education can help you maneuver every day life. You can read parking tickets and contracts when others might ignore them. You can deal with people like insurance agents, bankers, etc. and answer questions that will affect your financial affairs. It is a very stressful job, especially if you care a lot about people. It helped me make a lot of money, especially since I wasn't heavily qualified in much else. It also gave me a freedom that I might not otherwise have had. I am an appellate attorney and I mostly choose my hours. I can stay home and work in my pajamas. I could and did become self-employed. Once I finished a brief, I would take a long vacation, waiting for the next one. I rarely worked in an office and an appeal might involve just one court appearance. It's been a good life for me.

Hi Jenniyah B: Being a lawyer is, like anything else, what YOU make of it! As my mother always told me - life is what you make it. I know lawyers who love it and lawyers who hate it. I have one friend who was about to quit and had never tried a case in his career. He came to watch me defend a dentist in a dental malpractice case. My friend found his passion. He loves medical malpractice and has two of the highest verdicts in the United States. He told me if it came to going to a movie or sitting home reading a medical book - he'd rather sit home. So, is it worth it? Can be. Does iit help in the long run? Again that will depend on you. The study of law changes the way you think - no kidding. It changes the way you look at things. Let's say for the sake of this answer, that after school you decide you want to work for Amazon in one of their fulfillment Centers. You see a work safety issue, or want to unionize, or see a hazard, your legal training helps! I am not trying to push you into going to law school. If you have a passion for something and want to follow that passion - go for it.

Jonathan’s Answer

A legal education is very great, however, as a lawyer, I don’t think that actual practice of law is worth it. Being a law professor or Supreme Court Justice yes that is worth it. Most practicing lawyers are happy because they feel important or think they are stealing money because it is easy. Practice isn’t very exciting and it’s not that great a business.
