Hi Tina,

Very good questions. A couple things for you to consider.

There are courses you can take online to assist with your math proficiency. I would suggest doing a general online search for this.

As far as colleges are concerned , many colleges either use your ACT or SAT scores for placement or they will ask you to take a placement test before assigning you to a specific course. My son will be a finance major in the fall and he decided to take the placement test. In his case, he placed higher than his SAT scores indicated.

Just a thought...

Good luck to you!

Typically, we do not need advanced mathematics in financial fields.

However, depending on the degree program you are in, you may have to attain a math proficiency level up to business calculus, which is a water-down version of the STEM-track calculus sequence. Therefore, it is imperative that you do well in your Algebra I and Algebra II sequence in high school to get ready for the college level mathematics. After these algebra sequence, you may want to consult with your teachers to attempt AP math classes. It would be a good preview of college math for your planned degree program.

Hi Tina!

This is a great question. I have always struggled with math during middle and high school. I would highly recommend using Khan Academy as a great resource to help you improve your math skills. Khan Academy offers tutorials, practice exam, lecture videos, etc. to explain concepts for each different math subject. Khan Academy is also free so it's definitely very accessible by anyone. You can also track your progress with this tool to see how much you learn and measure the difference in where you started vs. where you ended.

Hope this helps!
