What is a regular day like for a Certified Nursing Assistant?
I am a student learning a trade in CNA. I love to serve people and assist them in any way I can. I am kind, patient, and loving. I like to read, write, dance, and bake. I would like to know what nurse assistants do day in and day out. Tell me a day in the life of a CNA. #nurse #nursing #cna

A good way to find out is find a CNA at your local hospital and see if you can shadow them for a day, it will also give you an opportunity to ask questions and seek advice in how they started and what things you could look into.

I’m not a CNA, but I am a Registered Nurse and I work closely with CNAs all the time. First off, we couldn’t get through a day without a CNA to help us with our patients. They’re the ones who keep our patients comfortable and well-cared for when the nurse isn’t at bedside to address their medical needs. While CNAs aren’t licensed to dispense medications or conduct medical procedures, they’ll often assist the nurse in these activities.
Truthfully though, you need to truly love people and understand how important your job is in making a patient/resident’s experience better. CNA work is dirty, tiring, and emotionally draining. You’ll often be working with people who can’t clean themselves and you’ll be aiding them in that. You’ll regularly help clean and flip rooms between patients and get new admits settled into rooms (sometimes getting vital signs, going over basic teaching, etc prior to the nurse getting to them). There will be happy patients, there will be angry, rude patients. But every now and then, you will make the difference for that little grateful grandma and every ounce of hard work will be worth it.
