You can receive your associates degree (2 years, typically community college) or bachelor's (4 years) as your starting point. Some students go receive their associates first and work while going to school for their bachelor's. I personally recommend going for your bachelor's if it is feasible because it is more science and clinical based. Hospitals are more looking for nurses that have their bachelor's degree. There are some healthcare settings that will help pay for your continuing education, should you first receive your associates then look into your bachelor's. You need to look into the options. If you want to be a Registered Nurse, you can graduate with an Associates Degree in Nursing. However, there is a HUGE push to make the Bachelors degree the minimum entry level education for a Registered Nurse. I graduated from a 2 year program over 22 years ago, and I had an Associates of Science in Nursing. I went back less than 5 years ago and finished my BSN. If you have the ability to go to a 4 year (BSN) program , I strongly advise it. Most academic teaching hospitals will not hire you without one.
