What careers are there in skateboarding?
I am a 14 year old skateboarder. I am thinking of going to college, and I was thinking, " What careers are there in skateboarding or skating technology." #tech #skateboard #skateboarding #career #career-counseling

Skateboarding careers will be more lucrative in the entertainment industry. When it comes to making money, you usually have to ask yourself how you can make someone else money before they are going to pay you. For the entertainment industry, you would have to break into the professional industry. This would entail following sporting events and applying to assist wherever you can to get your name out there. Knowing the right people can land you a gig at a major event! Another route is to be independent and achieve a following via social media (think Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, etc). This usually involves skills in videography (which requires $$$ upfront). Make sure to follow the skating community and become involved in matters of the industry (merchandise, modern skating technology, etc) and share this information to your followers.
Another route would to become an educator. I'm not sure of the popularity in your location, but there are instructor positions to teach children/young adults how to skateboard--you should check your area to see if you can assist them and work your way towards a paying job.
I hope this helps. In a field such as skateboarding, formalities are lacking. You will have to pave your own path to success.

Hi Christopher!
Skateboarding is a very fulfilling sport and one of my favorite hobbies. There are many different careers and paths you can go down within the skateboarding world, but it depends on what you're looking for.
Pro-Skater:
This one is obvious. The most lucrative job within skateboard is to be a pro skater with your very own board. You are at a great age where you can continue to spend every chance you have at your local park, driveway, or even find street spots to practice at. The better you get and more clips you film, the better of a chance at getting noticed you have.
Filmer:
Filmers are the backbone of the skating industry. With clips and skateparts always being posted, a good filmer is always needed. There are many important parts of this job such as understanding lighting, angles, and background balances.
Skateshop:
With the internet allowing us to order any specific deck or shoe we want, skate shops have been slowly shutting down. However, each city or town seem to have at least one engrained into the culture. If you do it right, owning a skate shop can keep you involved in the local skate scene and be a reliable source of income! However, I would recommend one thing.
(1.) Work at a local skate shop part time. This will familiarize you with the day to day operations and let you get a first hand look of all the things you will need to do on a daily basis.

Really glad to receive from you, I start to think about of career at my first job at 13 years old when I took a part time sales clerk job at my uncle's store;
I hope these could be helpful:
1 Skateboarder life: Athlete and skateboarder coach/gym coach and/or club manager, It would be interesting: there are opportunities to travel to everywhere with your expertise;
2 Sports news/video related: sports news editor/host, web poster; not only sports, You need to be quite social with some humor sense if you want to join this;
3 Sports event/government job: not only on your interest, you have to practice to be a good organizer, as well as your speech capability;
These are my view of skateboarding and willing to help, wish you a good career with your skateboard;
