Hello, Trey! It's cool that you're interested in creating anime! Since you're still in high school, now is a great time to start developing your skills. First, focus on storytelling and script writing to craft compelling narratives and characters. Study animation techniques, including drawing, character design, and the principles of movement. Try to build skills in art and digital design. It will help you create visually appealing characters and settings. Don't forget to check out YouTube. There are tons of helpful videos out there!

Try to gain knowledge in film and media production. It will help you see how all the elements of a show come together, from directing to editing and sound design. Have fun exploring different aspects of the production process, and experiment with various techniques to discover what excites you the most. Optionally, you can try immersing yourself in the Japanese culture and learning its language can add a touch of authenticity to your work.

As you prepare for college, look for courses in animation, storytelling, and digital art, and work on building a strong portfolio. Keep practicing, studying different anime styles, and refining your unique voice. Good luck, and enjoy the creative journey ahead!

If you're a fan of anime or cinema, you're in for a treat by choosing a major in film or animation. While not every university offers these specific majors, I'm confident that you'll find one that does! Anime is a unique blend of artistry and technical skills, such as drawing and animation. By choosing an animation major, you'll have the opportunity to hone your existing skills and acquire new ones, helping you to develop a distinct and cohesive anime art style. Alongside these artistic skills, you'll also be introduced to the technological aspects of creating animations and other digital art forms. This should give you a good starting point for your college search. Here's to your exciting journey ahead!

Savannah’s Answer

Hey, there. Where an education in the Entertainment industry would be helpful, I would focus on the business and legal aspects the most when developing a show. Many people go into the industry without education but plenty of experience so you can certainly network regardless of your education.

I would also suggest going to conventions, practice making a pitch treatment, and getting to know ways for funding. Look into state programs that provide grants to creators and get to know those in the industry you click with.

Best of luck, looking forward to what you create.

Savannah recommends the following next steps:

Study the legal aspect of the Entertainment Industry
Network with like-minded creators
Practice the skills needed for production ( writing, sketching, planning, budgeting, etc. )
Research and apply for funding
Build your production team

Hello, Trey !

This is a wonderful question ! If you are wondering about the path to becoming an Animator, I would be happy to give some advice.

To learn how to become an Animator, you would go to film school or a college that offers Animation as a Major. Living in Ocala, Florida, you can consider colleges such as Rasmussen University, Ocala Campus, which offers an Associates or Bachelors Degree in Graphic Design. This major has tracks in Animation and Motion Graphics. Another college in Ocala you can visit to find out more would be the College of Central Florida. At this college, you can major in Digital Media or Graphic Design. There are also some colleges that offer an Animation major, but not located in Ocala.

Colleges offering a degree in Animation are CG Spectrum College of Digital Arts, Ringling College of Art and Design, Stetson University, University of Tampa, and Southern Technical College. You can find their websites online to read more about their programs. Although there are some studios that you can find out more about, some are not located in Ocala and there are some in Orlando.

It would also be helpful to you to do some volunteer work or request an apprenticeship at one of the animation studios. You can look up the following studios to seek this experience: Action Jackson Productions, In Motion Productions Inc. in Silver Springs, Video Vault Productions in Bellevue, Eric Miller Animation Studios, Riley Animation Studios, Calabash Animation, Orlando Studio, Meticulous Media, Glen Lau Film Video, and NJP Productions. Keep in mind that to be a professional Animator, you will have to also learn and be able to do many styles as well as the one you personally like. You will want to be very versatile so that when you begin looking for clients or work, you will have a broad range of styles that you can do, therefore obtaining more work.

Another way to become familiar with Animation would be to take some free online Animation classes. You can find free classes at CG Spectrum, Animation Mentor, Flipaclip, Kurzgesagt (a You Tube Channel offering free tutorials), and Class Central which offers both free and non-free classes.

You can learn now while you are in high school but the bulk of your knowledge will come while you are in college as an Animation Major. It's fine to start small and take each step at a time. I hope that this helps for a start and I wish you all the best !
