I want to start making music. Does anybody know any free software I could use??
I like playing along to songs with the instruments that I have but I want to start making music. I was wondering if there's any free software I could use to see if I want to pursue making music.

If you use MacBooks or other apple computers, use GarageBand. If you use windows, use CakeWalk. If you don't like either of those, use Bandlab. I may be missing a few good free ones, but your main goal should be saving for a paid software. The best of those that I can recommend are Logic (I use Logic lol), Ableton, Reaper, and Pro Tools. Though you could also use FL Studio.
Thank You Thomas, I'll start saving up.

Cakewalk is a free DAW software that will help you make music faster. Other than than you can use REAPER, it is very cheap and has a 60 day trial period. The downside of REAPER is the lack of stock virtual instruments. REAPER is better if you have an audio interface and can record yourself playing live instruments.

Hello, a great software that I use is called SoundTrap. It is completely free to use with a lot of good free options. You can create your own sounds with a variety of instruments, or use their pre-made sound. You can also record audio and import your own mp3 files.

Hi Alex!
MIDI, or Musical Instrument Digital Interface, is a fascinating system that boasts 128 distinct instruments, 128 pitches, and 128 volume levels. I encourage you to dive deeper into this subject by visiting this site: PDFDrive. Here's the link: https://www.pdfdrive.com/search?q=midi&pagecount=&pubyear=&searchin=&em=
A couple of decades ago, I had the pleasure of exploring MIDI in VB6 and even developed a comprehensive music platform. If you're interested in seeing my work, I've recorded some of it on YouTube.Studio back in 2014. Here are the links to those recordings:

Hi James! The links to your YT do not work (I believe you are sending us to the studio to make our own video instead of the actual video). Could you please edit and add in the correct video links?
Gurpreet Lally, Admin
Hi Gurpreet, The YT links work for me so it must be the web. I am sending you guys to adjudicate my work, not compile your own, though you may want to do that later. JCF
