Phillip’s Answer

Looking at your location, you are in Lagos. If you are looking to become a Doctor in Nigeria, it is a direct process to apply to your institution of choice, pass their cut-off points and gain direct admission into medicine. On the other hand, if you are looking to study outside of Nigeria; Europe, America, Australia, or New Zealand, you would have to obtain a science-related degree before you further apply to study medicine. Some schools have joint programmes that would make you pass through the science-related courses as prelim and then advance to Medicine.

Rita’s Answer

Most doctors go to college and then medical school but I believe there are some schools that combine the two so it's either 7 or 8 years. You may be able to save 1 year. These are very competitive so you may not be able to finish as they weed people out of the program.

Kathleen’s Answer

Hello! It's great that you love medicine and want to become a doctor! Yes, you need to graduate from a college or university with a degree, typically in a science or a pre- med course. It is helpful if you volunteer or work in some capacity in a clinic or hospital, or at community outreach in local health departments. You also need to take the MCAT exam prior to application to med schools. It's a long educational and training process, and a challenging course and career. But you can do it as long as you're willing to work hard.
Best to you.

Vivekananthi’s Answer

Hi, you typically need to complete a university degree before entering medical school. Most medical schools require applicants to have a Bachelor’s degree, often in a science-related field, although some may consider candidates with an A-level background or equivalent qualifications.

Here’s a general pathway for aspiring medical students:
1. Secondary School: Complete your O'Levels (WAEC/NECO).
2. Pre-University: Many students take A-levels or enroll in a foundation program. Some may also complete the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.
3. University Degree: Most medical schools require a first degree before admission, but some may allow direct entry for those with outstanding A-level results.
4. Medical School: Once you meet the prerequisites, you can apply to medical schools, where you’ll undergo a 6-year program.

If you’re passionate about medicine, focus on excelling in your studies and gaining relevant experience, like volunteering or internships in healthcare settings. Good luck on your journey to becoming a doctor!

Hello! You need to attend a college or university and graduate with a degree. You also need to volunteer, do research and extra curricular activities to become a competitive medical school applicant. You would apply to med school a year before you graduate. Please let me know if you have other questions!
