I want to get a bfa - how hard is it to get into a program?
I’m 14 and want to pursue acting as a career, particularly Shakespeare. My plan right now is to do 5-7 plays a year during high school, do the ESU Shakes comp, create Shakes clubs where I can start getting directing experience, continue with my outside of school acting coach, singing as well, and I’ll probably start doing musical theater dance. I’m not trying to brag or anything, just want to give whoever answers this question a better understanding, but I’ve been told I’m very talented by most people who see me perform. How hard would it be to get into a bfa program if I audition for like 15 of them? I know I shouldn’t be worrying about it right now but I panic about this daily 😅

Is being a stage performer worth it?
Hi, I'm an 11th (about to be 12th) grader trying to decide his career path. I've done stage performance since I was in pre-k and it has become something I need to express myself. I can't see myself without it in my life. However, my mom says I wouldn't be able to make a living off of it and need to look at other career paths. The only other career I can think of is an art or drama teacher and she still isn't satisfied. PLEASE HELP!!!

Which Career should I choose Theatre or Marine Biology?
They're completely different, but they are both significant to me. For instance, I love acting, I've been doing it my whole life and can't imagine myself without it! It makes me the happiest I've ever been and brought me out of my shell of anxiety. It's made me who I am. However, I also love the ocean, animals, and swimming. Also, for marine biology, you have to write essays, which I also love doing.

How do you stay financially stable with a career in the arts?
I am a sophmore in highschool beginning to prepare for my future. I am really creative and want to expirience new things everyday. I am very invested in the arts and would like to stay involved in them in some way. I fear that being involved will cause me to struggle in the future. Here I am involved in theatre, dance, choir, Student council, and NHS. I am a good leader and really enjoy social interaction.
How did you continue to pursue such a difficult career with everyone telling you to “have a realistic plan”?
I’m still a freshman in high school but acting is my passion and I’ve never been more sure of wanting to do something for the rest of my life so I just want to know. It might be worth noting that I’m also good at script writing which is the career my parents are trying to nudge me more towards whether they’re doing it on purpose or not. While I do enjoy writing and plan on maybe starting that way and then looking for an opportunity to pursue a more onstage/on screen job, it’s not my main focus, it’s more of a starting point. I am in a magnet school for drama so i am very involved in theatre and acting and am learning new techniques and will be doing a lot of shows and competitions for my high school years.
How should I improve acting/vocals for school musicals/plays?
I'm a middle/high school student who's interested in participating in plays and musicals for my school. I've only been in two in the past and have gotten side/background characters and a narrator. I don't have much experience in acting and I am a self-taught singer. What are some good ways to improve my acting/vocals and to possibly have a better chance in getting a lead role?
