Are there different types of advertisers?

I am a junior at Boston Collegiate Charter School and I'm very interested in the topic of advertising, under the overall umbrella of marketing. As I continue to think about the right college for me, the decision is highly based upon the choice of study. I've thought about my natural skills with drawing, so art may be something I pursue. Journalism has always caught my attention, with broadcasting and media analysis. However, these interests have sprung out of my initial focus: advertising. I can advertise with works of art, and I can advertise products, like journalists do, on certain TV news channels. Generally, I like to expand my horizons. I'd like to know what various types of advertisers there are and what companies could I work for? #marketing #journalism #advertising

Best way to enter the entertainment industry on the business side

Hi everyone, I am currently a junior in college, and my professional future seems to be directed towards advertising. After an internship in marketing in general, I am interning this summer in an ad agency, on the data analysis side. Yet, my dream is to work in the entertainment industry, on the business side, either as an agent or in a studio. I was wondering what you would recommend to enter this industry where network is everything. Is it worth it to start as an assistant (at the bottom of the food chain) and then become an agent, potentially later switching to a studio? Or would you recommend starting in another industry (advertising for instance) and then switch over at a later date, probably higher up in the hierarchy? And more generally, what is your opinion on this industry? Thank you very much for your help! #marketing #entertainment #advertising #career-change #entertainment-industry #digital-advertising #entertainment-marketing

In terms of event advertising, what are some key tips to help promote and increase participant turn-out?

I served as President and Director of Marketing for my Residence Hall Council. As result, I had to make several flyers promoting the events we were hosting. Thanks to some of my prior art and design classes, I had some understanding of what captured people's attentions. However, I knew there was more to what I was doing. We tried different tactics to get the word out to our residents, hoping more people would start showing up to the events. Is there any advice that you could offer for future advertising and marketing ventures? I am an Outdoor Recreation major and would love to have a job that deals with planning and execution of activities, events, camps, etc. and I believe this would be valuable information to have going in. #marketing #advertising #event-planning #planning #service #commercial #outdoor-recreation #promotion

How do I get good at cold calling?

I am a student at San Jose State. I just recently started on the advertising staff of our newspaper the Spartan Daily. My job is to cold call local businesses and have them place ads in the paper. I am comfortable talking on the phone so that is not a problem. However, I would love to learn some methods on how to close some deals and make some sales. I have come close to closing some deals and other businesses show no interest at all. I think I need to re-evaluate my approach. I would love to improve and become better at cold calling. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks! #business #marketing #advertising #marketing-and-advertising #sales #cold-calling

If I want to pursue social media management as a career how can I achieve this?

So I received my General Studies Associates in May and I am looking to go attain my Bachelors degree but I need more clarity on what to do. I definitely want to study cinematography, photography and digital media marketing. I need some clarification concerning Digital media marketing. Since the Digital Media Marketing space changes so frequently, is it even a good idea to get a degree that deals with that or should I just get a certification from a good college? Since Digital media marketing is really a new field most colleges do not have that as a major, so if I do focus on this I need to know what broader degree to study, like Marketing, Communications, Public Relations? I am not sure what to choose; with a marketing I don't think my education will be solely focus on the digital media aspect. So is it worth it get a degree or should I just wrack up a lot of experience for a portfolio to present? My goal would be to become a social media manager and learn as much as I can, and then launch out and become a freelance social media manager and content creator. Using my skills in film to help create content online. #marketing #business #college #advertising #entrepreneur #college

I don’t know what to choose between these majors?

Hi everyone. Currently, I am stuck between choosing a major in Advertisement, Entertainment & Tourism, and Public Relations. And I think it’s better to see other people’s opinions on those three majors (maybe pros and cons or anything you can share with me). I’m much thankful if I could hear from everyone here. Thank you so much. FYI, my name is Hung, 22 years old and live in Southern California.

How many internships is too many?

I am currently a sophomore in college; advertising major and event management minor. I had my first internship at a small marketing/ad agency last summer and have been working there part time ever since. I'm happy to be working in my industry already and would love to stay with this company trough my college career, but would also love to get more internships under my belt with different agencies/companies. Should I plan for another next summer? Or should I wait until I'm an upper division student? I worry too many internships may be a bad thing but I have no idea. Thanks! #advertising #marketing #internships #undergrad #event-management
