Does an Aerospace engineer figure out how planes can be made better? What classes should I take for this career I want to be part of?

I joined a STEM program last month and we created robots, I thought it was create. Then during break there was a aerospace information table. I just love how they work with planes. I also love traveling in planes. I also got interested in this field when my friends dad came to my school to talk about his job. #aerospace-engineering #aerospace #planes

As an engineer, is there ever an invention or creation that is too big to dream of, and if not then how do you get started on the intimidating journey towards the end goal?

Hello, I am a senior in high school aspiring to become an aerospace engineer in the future, in hopes of changing the world for the better through an engineering background. A dream like this requires some sort of plan and instead of waiting to be in college with all the fancy laboratories and equipment I decided I can start my own research and development towards my goal of improving the aerospace industry right now. I ask myself big questions, sometimes questions that seem almost impossible to answer, but one question has had me hooked for awhile, how can we make jet propulsion not run on chemicals and fuels but instead with electricity? My best brainstorm is that the combustion chamber is switched with an ionization process that can accelerate the incoming air and also shoot electromagnetic waves at the incoming air in the combustion chamber to heat it up the air. Thus this process heats and accelerates the air, just like your average combustion chamber. As crazy as it sounds this idea has been an obsession of mine and I am convinced I can create it, now whether or not it will actually work is still unknown to me, but research is all about trial and error. However my friends, my parents, and sometimes myself think I am in over my head for wanting to build something that seems like something from Star Trek but my question is, is it alright to dream big like this? Is there a limit to what an 18 year old can actually build? And if there is no limit then where do I start? Not technically where do I start, but how does the engineering process work? What is usually the first step that an engineer takes when they have a eureka moment and decide to build something? The likelihood of this plasma jet engine working seems very small, but any chance at success seems worth it and I'd love it if I can get any help from real engineers on how to start or even if to start. Thank you! #engineering #aerospace-engineering

Is Mechanical Engineering a good first-choice major if I'm currently a high school senior and unsure which branch of Engineering I should delve into?

I've always heard that Mechanical Engineering is one of the more broad branches of Engineering, and so I was wondering - If I want to keep myself open to the possibility of changing my major to a different field of Engineering, then would it be a good idea to start out with Mechanical Engineering as my major? Would it be an easy transition in the case that I decided to switch from say, Mechanical Engineering to Aerospace Engineering, or Computer Engineering? #college #engineering #mechanical-engineering #aerospace-engineering #choosing-a-major

How did you become an Engineer?

In more detail, I would like to know what degree you were going for and why it interests you, as well as how much scholarship money you received and how you got it. I would also like to know if being an Engineer is worth carrying a bunch of stress. One more thing, if you could redo things in your past (referring to applying for college and pursuing degrees), what would you do differently? #engineering #mechanical-engineering #computer-engineering #software-engineering #aerospace-engineering #chemical-engineering #industrial-engineering #nuclear-engineering

Would it be better to get a job with the federal government or a corporation such as Boeing or Lockheed Martin?

I have heard that getting jobs with the government can be difficult unless you have people on the inside to help you out. So, I'm asking if avoiding the hassle and going to a corporation would be just as good (if not better). #engineering #science #technology #mechanical-engineering #math #aerospace-engineering #aeronautics #federal-government

What is the primary difference, whether it be course work and classes or what kind of study each are, between a applied physics/ engineering physics major versus a mechanical engineering major? What career opportunities do each of the majors give?

I am confused between applying to college for an applied physics and engineering physics major or simply a mechanical engineering major without clearly understanding what each major entails. I don't know the specific differences between the two majors and it would definitely help if someone cleared it up. #engineering #mechanical-engineering #math #physics #aerospace-engineering #applied-mathematics

Is there a merit selecting an Applied Physics/ Engineering Physics major over a mechanical or aerospace engineering major career wise in the future? Which offers more critical problem-solving requirements for these jobs?

As a student primarily interested in math, physics, and engineering, I constantly wonder which major I should decide. I have loved the necessary logic and problem solving required in some of the math and physics courses I take in high school but always consider if engineering is the right major for me. Both majors in the question require similar skills and interests and I think knowing the distinction and what I will be getting into may help clarify many things. #engineering #mechanical-engineering #math #physics #aerospace-engineering #aerospace #applied-mathematics
