If you were to hire someone for this position, what sort of qualities would you recognize as potential for this career path?

As I've started to gain more insight about this profession I find myself resonating highly with this career. Although, I'd like to gain further insight of what it truly takes to work with people and their necessities from someone that's already had experience. #healthcare #art-therapy #qualities

How could planning to spend some years as a stay-at-home mom affect my career choice?

I know I want to work as a therapist in my future, and I feel that my career would be a very important part of my life. At the same time, I know I also want to have a family, and I'd like to spend at least a few years at home with my children, assuming this is financially feasible for our family. I know there are some careers and some positions where this is easier than in others. Obviously, managers have to return to work more urgently than those below them, etc. Are there any particular careers in the field that would be especially conducive or obstructive to this decision? Any advice would be appreciated. :) #psychology #therapy #parenting #art-therapy #play-therapy #stay-at-home

How do I become an art therapist?

I'm an artist and a first year college student in NYC (Withdrew from second semester). Originally, I was working towards a computer graphics degree (which included art). However, I'm no longer interested in the tech field and after sometime, I realized the mental health field is something I wanted to work in. I quickly found that art therapy sounds right up my ally. My current college doesn't provide that degree so I've spent hours researching the different schools that offer it and have been hit with dead ends or very confusing information. If any art therapists in NYC can give me insight on how you got your degree and which school(s) are accredited or have the courses that accredited school take, that would be amazing. Also, is there a less costly way to become one? So far, all the school in NY that offer it have 5 digit tuitions even with financial aid.

What art therapy programs would you recommend?

Hello there, Briana here! I am a current community college student, planning on graduating later this spring semester and I wanted to ask about any art therapy graduate programs so I may later choose the right school and bachelor's programs for me. I generally know a lot of the programs are private institutions, although I'm not technically sure if I want to consider being in or out college of state, cost, plans of work transportation and so forth. I had the resources from school; but being it was a while since I was actively searching (when not swamped with coursework), I'm not sure where to jump in. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated and thank you to anyone who responds in advance. #art #psychology #college-advice #career #art-therapy #masters #bachelors

How to do an art therapy portfolio?

Hello, my name is Briana and I would like to ask any artists or art therapists of career village: how did you organize your portfolio and what type of work would you recommend including? I imagine it varies program to program, but I was simply curious. Knowing once I do finish with my bachelor's program, I will need a portfolio to apply to said graduate programs and would like to know if I can save current art work I've made from my classes so far or have a list of upcoming suggestions when I can later make them. Thank you in advance for any responses and I hope you all have a good day! #art #psychology #college #art-therapy #artist #firstgeneration #masters #career #bachelors #portfolio #career

Where should I look and who should I talk to about art therapy internships ?

I am a sophomore psychology major attending Howard University and I am having a hard time finding people to talk to about a career in art therapy. I’m trying to find undergraduate internships or somebody to work under so I can really see if I have a love for this career path. I am heavily into art and I enjoy working with paint as my main medium. I’ve also been doing a lot of research about color theory and how different colors directly relate to moods and feelings.

I would like help finding scholarships that are not scams.

I have received a good package for college, but am still short of paying for the degree I am pursuing in art therapy.. I am the last of eight kids in my family and I have to pay my way through college. I don't mind spending the time writing essays, etc. but I am finding it difficult to find real scholarships that won't waste my valuable time applying for them. Does anyone have any suggestions? #scholarships #art-therapy
