Should I prioritize getting a Bachelors degree or getting job certifications?

I have a two-year degree in what is essentially digital photography (my childhood dream) that I got immediately after high school. I have since decided that this isn’t a good fit for me as a career, and have been struggling to find my first job. In 2019, I went back to my local community college to take some professional development classes to try and build my resume. These classes so far have been training in MS Word, Excel, and Access, communication skills, and customer service skills. I’ve had to step away for a bit for personal reasons, but I plan to start working towards the Professional Administrative Certificate of Excellence (PACE Certification) in the next few weeks. But. I’ve recently learned that the college money that my parents set aside for me is still available - they paid for my community college degree out of pocket (which completely blows my mind). It’s a nest egg big enough that I can essentially get a bachelors degree for “free” without taking out any student loans. This is an amazing opportunity that I am lucky to have, and I want to make sure that I use this money wisely. My parents have been super generous by letting me live at home until I can get my feet under me…but I’m now in my early 30s. My dad plans to retire next year. We’re currently trying to navigate what that looks like, but I want to be financially independent as quickly as possible so I don’t become a leech. I don’t know if I am necessarily trying to choose my entire career right now. I’ve always been told that education was the key to a good life and career, and I don’t want to waste this money. I am currently looking for work and doing all the things associated with that - I am constantly applying for jobs, I volunteer, I’ve taken several job/career assessments, I’m getting into networking, etc. I’m trying to cast as wide of a net as possible to find this first job - I’m open to almost anything. So - what would be the best strategy for my situation? Should I go for the bachelors degree? Or should I focus on getting certified in various job fields/disciplines and get my bachelors after I find employment? What is the quickest route to a job that will allow me to finally move out of my parents’ house (and, preferably, to buy my own home)?

What is a major that I'd be able to use in any part of the world?

I am currently going into my Junior year of college and I am kind of undecided with regards to what I want to major in. Due to some circumstances, I don't know how long I will be able to reside within the United States. I want to graduate before that decision has to be made, but I want to major in something that I could continue pursuing in any part of the world, just in case I have to move. Any kind of input would be highly appreciated. Thank You! #career-counseling #career-choice #travel #college-major #bachelorsdegree #career-choice

Are foreign language degree considered "useless?"

I love foreign languages. I'm already bilingual. (I speak Spanish fluently.) It's my dream to become a polyglot. In college, I'm certain I want to either minor or major in a foreign language. I'm particularly interested in learning Japanese, but I'm also considering Arabic or Russian. The problem is I'm worried about being able to find a job outside of teaching with my degree. (I don't think I have what it takes to become a teacher.) People have warned me about the dangers of a liberal arts degree, and have suggested that I avoid pursuing a degree in liberal arts and humanities. However, I do love math. In the future, I'm thinking about pursuing a career in immigration law or international business. I'm not really sure. But would a foreign language degree on it's own be considered "useless?" Would I need to find an additional field to major or minor in in order to launch a successful career with a foreign language degree? #foreign-languages #careers-for-people-with-liberal-arts-degrees #japanese #bachelorsdegree #arabic #russian ##spanish

What is a good major/career path for a current DACA student?

I am currently going into my Junior year of College. I have already received an associates of science degree, and I am pursuing a bachelor's degree. With the uncertainty that has arisen with regards to the future of DACA students, I have put a lot of emphasis on trying to choose the "correct major". In my situation, the right major would be a degree that would allow me to get into a career with a lot of possibilities (being well paid would be good too) because demand might be high for such jobs to the point where employers would keep an open mind to hiring employees from different backgrounds such as my own. I have looked into a lot of degrees and I am currently deciding between Accounting, Computer Science, IT Systems or Supply Chain Management. Any kind of input would be great! In Australia, how big is the difference between the *content* of a Bachelor's Degree with Honours and an equivalent Master's Degree?

I understand that Bachelor + Honours degrees typically take 4 years, while Master’s degrees take about 2. But is there a difference in the *content* of these degrees? I'm specifically interested in La Trobe University, but advice about other universities are welcome as well! For reference, these undergraduate vs these postgraduate degrees from La Trobe (which are all health degrees, as upon exiting any of these, you can register with the relevant board and be a practitioner): - Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) VS Master of Occupational Therapy Practice - Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) VS Master of Physiotherapy Practice - Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) VS Master of Social Work - Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours) VS Master of Speech Pathology There may be better examples from other Australian Universities!

What can I do with a bachelors in biology? I can really use some help

Hey guys, I am here seeking for advise. I graduated in 2016 with a bachelors in biology and now I don’t know what to do. I originally planned on going to med school but soon found out that school is not for me. - I have a 2.7 gpa. For the past two years, I’ve been doing little jobs but nothing related to my field. I feel like my degree is a waste and I feel depressed that I’m not doing anything with my life. I feel like a failure. I have no one to turned to as my family is expecting so highly of me. As much as I hate school, I love biology. I’m lost and I don’t know what I can do with my bachelors in biology #biology #bachelorsdegree #general-advice
