When do I begin studying for the MCAT?

I just finished my first year as an undergraduate student. I'm majoring in biochemistry and minoring in psychology. I know these two fields are very helpful for the MCAT. (I am very interested in those fields as well, so it was not the only reason I chose them.) When did you begin studying for the MCAT, and would it be too soon if I began prepping now? I got an MCAT practice app recently and do a few questions a day. #JULY20 #premed #college #physician #mcat #study #medical #biochemistry #psychology

How do scientific researchers come up with their ideas?

I'm an 11th grader in some biotechnology classes, and it's got me very interested in pursuing a career in medical research. However, I don't really understand how researchers come up with their ideas. Is there a list out there to choose from, or do people come up with them themselves? Because I've been trying and never came up with anything.

What are some relevant careers involving biology or chemistry and what should I major in to enter those careers?

I know I'm interested in a career in biology or chemistry or both, but I don't know what major I should choose to have flexibility in choosing careers in both fields. I want to enter a high-paying career that will not expire in the near future. Or maybe my uncertainty as a junior in high school doesn't matter because I can just switch majors if things don't work out as an undergraduate. #biology #chemistry #biomedical-engineering #chemical-engineering #biotechnology #biochemistry #career-details

What's the difference between an immunologist and a pathologist, and what courses/degrees would one have to take to become either of these?

I would like to become a scientist who develops cures/methods for diseases. I'm not yet sure if these would be viruses, autoimmune diseases, bacterial, and so forth. I would preferably be working in a lab, but not be a practicing doctor. I'm confused on the name(s) of these fields and what path I would have to take to do this. Would I have to become a practicing doctor first, then specialize? When I apply to college should I apply to the Medicine department or somewhere else? #medicine #biochemistry #pathology #immunology

What should I do before I apply to colleges and related programs/scholarships in order to have a competitive application that stands out?

I am getting ready to go into my senior year of high school and want to make the most out of it before I apply to colleges and related programs/scholarships. I am interested in doing biochemistry and animal sciences, considering double majoring. My long term goal is to go to vet school. I already work at a vet clinic, have lots of leadership and volunteer experience, get good grades, have shadowed veterinarians, and take many science/health classes. I have also been very involved inside and outside of school in a variety of activities. Lately I’ve tried to find more opportunities related to animals. I feel like I’m in a good place for applying to colleges but is there anything I should be doing to stand out? I want to apply for competitive programs such as Purdue’s Veterinary Scholars Program.

What major do medical school admission officers tend to be more interested in?

I am an aspiring orthopedic surgeon and choosing my major has always been an issue for me. At first, I planned to major in biology, but considering that it is a more broad aspect of science, I had doubts. Now, I am thinking of majoring in biochemistry because it focuses more on the molecular level. I am not too sure which major would land me a spot in medical school. I do understand that I need to take the MCAT and get my bachelor's degree, but what major are the medical school admission officers more interested in? #medicine #surgeon #biology #biochemistry #chemistry #college-major
