What industry areas of Biomedical Engineering are the best for recent college graduates hoping to pursue a lifelong career in biomedical product engineering?

I am hoping to pursue a career in Biomedical Engineering. Since this field is so broad and full of various areas of concentration, I want to know what areas professionals think are the best to begin with. What areas will help those new to industry narrow down their interests and applicable skill set? For reference, I have a concentration in electrical engineering. #biomedical-engineering #biomed #biotechnology #electrical-engineering #engineering #engineering-industry #first-job

How and Where to gain Industry Project Management experience as a volunteer, while still working in academia?

I am a postdoc fellow in life sciences. I have been in a lab doing bench work for years and this is not as much fun and exciting as it used to be. Now, I am looking at my options, trying to figure out what my next move should be; I have just started learning on my own what PM is and would like to put that into practice. #science #biotechnology #pharmaceuticals #project-management #life-sciences #portfolio-management #certified-project-manager

What career path should I follow based on the following information?

I'm an 18-year-old freshly out of high school. I'm not really sure about what I should pursue in college. My interests incline towards chemistry, biology, and psychology and I feel like I want to do something in the field of biology. But the thing is, in this field whatever I'm inclining toward seems like it wouldn't really help me with any placements and job opportunities, at least till I complete my master's in the course. Also, the earning also seems pretty low, specifically in India. I did think about going in the direction of med, but the competition seems way too high, and it feels very challenging so I'm not really sure about it. I was thinking about choosing between pharmacy and biotechnology, but in both cases, the placements and the opportunities seem to be lacking in India. What should I do? What should I expect when it comes to sexism and racism in the STEM field, because I know it's quite pervasive in the US?

I'm South Asian, muslim, and a woman, and so far I've not experienced a lot of sexist or racist treatment, but I expect I'll run into it eventually. Is there any ideology I should keep in mind, or any resources I should look into? #racism #sexism #biology #biotechnology #women-in-stem

How do scientific researchers come up with their ideas?

I'm an 11th grader in some biotechnology classes, and it's got me very interested in pursuing a career in medical research. However, I don't really understand how researchers come up with their ideas. Is there a list out there to choose from, or do people come up with them themselves? Because I've been trying and never came up with anything.

How exactly should I choose a career in STEM?

Being in STEM is something that I would love to do however, I am not sure exactly what career I want. I know I want to do something that can help people, possibly work with machinery, and have a really good pay. I hate working in teams and I would rather meet up with people initially to discuss plans and then do my work independently. But, engineering does do a lot of team work so I really need to learn how to be efficient with my time. I have been in multiple STEM programs but one of my favorite projects were creating prosthetic limbs and designing mechanical parts and research. So, I am interested in biomedical engineering but, I am also interested in aerospace. Growing up, I never really had much of an interest in planes but I really like learning about space and different theories or possibilities of what the world can look like billion years from now. I have other interests in career choices such as mechatronics, cyber security, and mechanical engineering. I have talked to other people of how exactly should I choose my career but they would always tell me to, ¨follow your passion¨. But here´s the thing... I don´t have a passion! How exactly can I even choose the right career for me when I don´t have passion and I just like STEM?

How do I break into the sustainable energy field?

As an incoming college freshman, I am interested in pursuing a career in the field of sustainable energy. I don't have a particular focus at the moment because I still have to learn more about my own major (Biotechnology) and the field itself, but I would like to be prepared for the future as early as possible. So, how do I break into the sustainable energy field? What careers are available, and what are their job outlooks? Any personal experiences to provide some insight? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! #college #science #biology #technology #stem #biotechnology #sustainability

What are some relevant careers involving biology or chemistry and what should I major in to enter those careers?

I know I'm interested in a career in biology or chemistry or both, but I don't know what major I should choose to have flexibility in choosing careers in both fields. I want to enter a high-paying career that will not expire in the near future. Or maybe my uncertainty as a junior in high school doesn't matter because I can just switch majors if things don't work out as an undergraduate. #biology #chemistry #biomedical-engineering #chemical-engineering #biotechnology #biochemistry #career-details

I'm currently a Biology, Wildlife&Conservation Science, and Film major. Should I switch to engineering, computers, or something along those lines?

I'm currently a Biology, Wildlife&Conservation Science, and Film major. I'm mildly regretting not majoring in computer science, engineering, or something along those lines, but I'm already a junior. I'm performing poorly in my classes lately...I'm a smart person, I've just been unmotivated and bored. The Film classes are super fun, but I keep looking back and wished I had done engineering, physics, or something like that. It's something I've been second guessing since I did it, and that can't be a good sign, but I'm at a loss for what to do to figure it out. #computer-science #engineering #science #biology #mechanical-engineering #biotechnology #environmental-science #wildlife-biology

Biotechnology vs Biomedicine vs Bioinformatics

Hello everyone, i'am a non-traditional student and i'am transferring to a for year with an ultimate goal of applying to Medical school. However, I'am having a difficult time choosing a transfer major, at my home institution I've already completed a large majority of science courses from Mircobio to Physics. Since I've completed these courses, its only befitting for me to choose a major that will uptake my current credits. The majors of interest are biotechnology, biomedicine and bioinformatics. Now, although I've researched the hell out of these majors, i still don't know what a typical work day would look like for either profession or if it is a profitable and complementary pathway to my ultimate goals. Someone please help, if you are in any of these fields. Thank you in advance #college-major #biotechnology #bioinformatics #biomedicine #Premed #Medicalschool #college-major
