I recently graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering and I'm trying to figure out what my options are and where I would fit in well.

Hi all. I recently graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering and I'm trying to figure out what my options are and where I would fit in well. My main reason for completing a chem eng degree was its versatility. At 18 I didn't know what I wanted to do but I knew this degree would give me options. I thought by the time I was done I would know what-what I'm passionate about but this has not been the case. My second reason for choosing this major was that I saw it as an opportunity to help people and create solutions. By my final year I was about 80% sure I did not want to be a chemical engineer but I decided to do an internship on a chemical engineering plant anyway before I made a decision. I've really enjoyed the problem solving and project scoping part of the job but I'm concerned about the stress and long hours that come with the job. I don't necessarily have a passion for the field. I'm hoping one of you can help me understand the other options I might have and possible career avenues I can look into. I really enjoy meeting new people and learning about sustainability. I've looked into jobs in SHEQ field as I assume my chem eng background would help but I'm not sure of the exact tasks involved. Thank you for taking the time to read my question and your response will be greatly appreciated. #chemicaleng #chemical-engineering #SHEQ #engineering #career #career-advice #sustainability #college

Would an engineering career allow me to travel?

I am planning to major in chemical and biomedical engineering. Do these fields allow for a lot of remote work, which would let me travel frequently while on the job? Otherwise, do careers in those fields ever require much on-site work in other countries? #engineering #biomedical-engineering #chemical-engineering #leisure-and-travel

How versatile is a double-major in biomedical and chemical engineering?

I know I enjoy chemistry and have a general affinity for math and science. However, I have a lot of broad interests, including possibly working in medicine or computers, and want to avoid closing doors (or needing to change majors). My school has a specific program that makes this dual degree a smooth 5 years, so it shouldn't be too complicated. Am I making a reasonable major choice? What fields could I feasibly work in with this major? #engineering #chemical-engineering #biomedical-engineering #indecisive

What is the best major to go for stem cell/tissue engineering?

My end goal is stem cell and tissue engineering, but I don't know which major is best for me to take and learn the most for it. I've researched for a while now and have gathered that I can choose from ChemE with Bio electives, Materials Science, or Bioengineering. I just want to work in research labs, which has lead me to think Bioengineering would fit best, but others say ChemE and Materials Science are better. #bioengineering #chemical-engineering #materials-science #biology #college-major #tissue-engineering #stem #stem-cells

Is chemical engineering a career for me?

I love problem solving, and as an individual being challenged is simply a great thing in my mind. If I ever run into issues, I will try and reach out to both my individual mind and my peers in order to be able to further advance with a concept. As a high school student, I loved my chemistry class (Basically all my science classes though) and I had always been interested in science even as a child. I detailed in another question that I lost a significant amount of weight, and I hope to one day apply what I have learned to change the food industry as we know it. There are so many recipes for foods that can be done alternatively that net the same exact result as very unhealthy junky food, yet at the moment due to me not knowing specific food interactions I cannot optimize certain substitutes when it comes to food. In America, the new generation is becoming increasingly obese, and I can understand why. A change in our food is necessary, and I want to bring about these changes, can chemical engineering guide me to be able to do this? #chemical-engineering #engineering #business #chemistry #weight-loss #rightjob #right-career

How difficult would it be for someone like me to get into a really competitive school?

I have recently been looking into Stanford and it literally looks like the college of my dreams. Great looking campus, low student to faculty, small student body, etc etc. But my question applies because at my high school, I am class rank #1/530ish with a 4.0 unweighted GPA along with a decent amount of extracurriculars and as much AP/honors classes available to take (except for history). At my first shot, I managed to get an ACT score of 26 which I found very disappointing (19 R, 24 E, 31 M, 31 SC), this was mainly because I failed to prepare for the english and I was only half way through before time got cut short and I bubbled in (I am sure I can get this score up though, maybe to about a 30). Despite this, I feel I've have worked pretty hard at all my classes, yet I have made a much greater individual achievement I hope could maybe weigh some in the applications process. Through the course of my high school career, I have lost 100+ pounds of fat, and have made significant lifting gains through my hard work and dedication. I plan to study chemical engineering and apply what I have learned about weight loss to possibly the whole food industry in the future. Change up how us Americans eat, and find better food substitutes to not only improve our health, but also our lifestyles as a whole. Perhaps get into the business industry too with what I know. #weightloss #engineering #chemical-engineering #food #competitive #admissions #transformation #stanford #college-admissions

Can someone offer me insights of chemical engineering?

I'm still debating between the fields of mechanical and chemical engineering. I wasn't quite familiar with chemical engineering, but I feel like it is a very interesting field. I have a ton of questions about chemical and mechanical engineering that would really help me be more insightful of my choice: How is the rigor of the courses in college? How is the pay? How are the personalities of the people in the field (both college & career) ? Should I go up to my bachelor's degree or is master? Is the degree worth it? #engineering #mechanical-engineering #chemical-engineering #career-details #financial-planning
