How recent graduate should find job in civil engineering in Vancouver?

Hi, I did my undergrad in civil engineering from India and right now I am doing Applied Planning program in Vancouver and I am new here. There are lot of questions that are crossing my now like: 1. If I wanted to pursue my career as civil engineer, what are the job opportunities for recent graduates here? Do I need to register myself as EIT under APEGBC? Is my undergrad degree valid here? How to network with civil engineering companies? What are some of the civil engineering companies here? 2. If I want to pursue my career as Planner, which private companies can hire me? ( I think city only hires Permanent residents). 3. Is there any field, I can collaborate both things? #civil-engineering #urban-planning #land-development #zoning

I am searching for an interniship, but I am seeing that sometimes people get a job easier when there is someone inside the conpany that rely on them, that has been indicated by someone else. When pursuing a career in Civil Engineering is better to specialize in one specific topic, or to have a broader overview?

I know that civil engineering is just a basic overview of most types of engineering, but i don't know if getting a degree in just generic civil engineering is better than a degree in a specific area of civil engineering. #civil-engineering

Being a woman in STEM, what is expected of your work life to be like as a civil engineer?

I have constantly been told that there are more men in the STEM field than women, and as a woman, it would be more difficult to communicate with my coworkers compared to being able to communicate with them if I was a man. I was told that I would be surrounded by other men who would not take me seriously, simply because I am a woman. Are these stereotypical statements true? What is it REALLY like as a woman in the civil engineering field? #civil-engineering #women-in-stem #professionals #women-in-engineering #structural-engineering

What is typically expected in a work day for someone that is a civil engineer specializing in structural engineering?

Growing up, I have always been told that as a civil engineer, you either draw bridges or perform math calculations to make sure the bridges are able to successfully stand. However, what is it REALLY like in a typical work day? Do you work on indoors computers? Do you work outdoors at construction sites? What tasks are you expected to be completing in a single day? #engineering #civil-engineering #professionals

I have many experiences that I overcome my challenges through my individual's ability. I want to know if someone else have same experiences as me. #computer-software #engineering #mechanical-engineering #civil-engineering #software-engineering #industrial-engineering

Is the field of Civil Engineering really competitive?

I've seen that Civil Engineering is a popular field so I want to know if the field isn't too competitive to find a job. I've heard about some fields becoming over saturated with workers, so does any one predict there being too many workers, but not enough jobs in the future. #engineering #civil-engineering

Is there any minors you would suggest getting along with an engineering degree?

I am trying to decide whether to use the extra class slots I will have open, due to taking college classes in high school, to get a minor, or to skip the minor and get a masters in 4 years in architectural engineering. I am wondering if it is that beneficial to get a minor, in say business, or if there is another minor that would work well with my major. So basically, is it better to have a major and 1 or 2 minors, or to have a masters only. #engineering #mechanical-engineering #civil-engineering
