How could I possibly shadow or contribute to my mentoring?

I have found a mentor that is a professor and a social worker with her own practice. When we first met we discussed things I could do, such as research and just asking questions in general, one of her suggestions was to shadow, but we were both concerned about the ethical dilemmas that would form as I am a highschool student although I do dual psychology classes at college which technically made me a college student. Many college students shadow professionals in the mental health field because they are studying that field, would this make it more acceptable if I were to shadow my mentor while obviously following HIPAA laws, ethical concerns, and getting the patients okay.

Do you or have you thought about mashing nutrition and psychology into one career? Has it worked out or do you think it will work out? Why or why not?

I am interested in nutrition's effect on emotional and physical diseases. I want to replace pills and medication as such with nutrition and all natural, super-food diets. I have not heard of a psychologist who, for example, would replace antidepressant pills with cashews, which are natural anti-depressants. I am planning on double-majoring in nutrition and psychology, but am not entirely sure how that would work out considering I know no one in this career field. #career #psychology #college-majors #clinical-psychology #clinical-nutrition #medical-nutrition-therapy #super-foods

I have really good internship offers for the medical field, but Im really only interested in the Mental Health field, does anyone have any recommendations to what I should do?

Hi, Currently I am a highschool student who is also minoring in psychology at community college and plans to double major in psychology and sociology, then earn a masters in social work, recently I was presented the opportunity to be inscribed with the Congress of Future Medical Leaders Award of Excellence, which is a two day national academy of future physicians congress meeting that will also allow me to be featured on local TV stations and newspapers. The problem being that I'm not interested in the medical field as a future career path. If I were able to pass this over to someone else, I would but I can't. This would be a really big opportunity to put myself out there, and it would look really good on college applications, and on my academic profile, but it doesn't have anything that I inherently want for my future career path, and it also might look weird on my college applications.

Can you get an associate's degree in one subject and a bachelor's in another?

I am an aspiring LCSW in sophomore year. I am taking my associates in college this year, but I don't know if I should major in Psychology and English or Sociology and English (I have to take a college class for English, but It was also recommended that I take another dual college class as well). In college I want to major in Sociology, and I was wondering that if I were to take a Psychology class would it look perplexing on my College application.

Some tips on balancing college, work, and other aspects of your life?

I'm 20 and have been enrolled in community college since I was 16. It's been a roller-coaster as far as my academic performance; I've done well in many classes and failed just as many. I think the biggest factor of my failures is my tendency to procrastinate when I get overwhelmed or stressed. Sometimes I get so stressed out and anxious that I sleep in and skip class altogether. I'm a very busy person for my age; I'm a full-time college student, work 30 hours a week (give or take 5 hours), and on the weekends I spend time with my fiance and his daughter (as well as working 8 hours each day); sometimes I can find time to study during the weekend, but usually I'm too distracted. Because I use public transportation, I usually have to go straight to work after class, which leaves me not much time to study, let alone other basic things such as cooking, cleaning, exercise and personal hygiene. My weeks usually look like this: Monday and Tuesday: Wake up around 6:45-7, leave about 7:50, get to school 30 minutes early for my 9 am class; no work. Wednesday, Thursday: Same morning routine, but I leave class and go straight to work; Get home around 11pm. Friday: No class, but I go to work between 2-4 until 10:30pm. Saturday/Sunday: Wake up mid-morning, do some kind of activity with the kid, work until 9-10:30. I know that what I'm doing isn't impossible, so what key thing am I missing here that will help me manage my time better? All responses are greatly appreciated! #psychology #clinical-psychology #time-management #studying-tips #work-life-balance #psychotherapy #personal-development #habit-forming

Im in a wrong major and now my grades are falling and i feel guilty about it, what should i do?

Im a medstud, im goin in 3rd year right now. I was feeling that meds isnt for me since the begining, but i kept going bcause i dont want to let my parents down. I went through myfirst year good enough, 3.1 GPA and during second year i just couldnt bear it anymore and i got depress. I never told my parents about it, ive been keeping it a secret. My 3rd semester i only got 2.5GPA. I didnt go to any outside class activity , i withdraw my self from my friends cause i just feel i dont connect with them. I also broke up with my bf bcause somehow he just reminds me a lot about medschool. I cried at night , pretend to b okay at day, i still do it right now. Until last month, i cant takeit anymore. I cried in front of my parents, and told them that i dont want to b in meds, i dont want to b a doctor, i want to pursue design. And of course they turned me down. They said tht its okay if i dont want to b a doctro, if i finish meds i can do what ever i want. But honestly, i dont know i just feel so bad about it. I still go to college right now just bcause i dont want to see my mom dissapointed in me. It hurts me inside. I go ti college and study just for formality, and you know how hard meds is, my score falling even futher. Until i didnt pass my last exam. Now i feel im guilty, i waste time and my parents money, all i need to do is just study, and i dont even do it well. I feel lost, im afraid of my future. I used to b a straight A student but now im barely pass. What should i do? Help me. #college #psychology #college-major #clinical-psychology #psychotherapy #depression #personal-development

How do you ask an institution or professional for shadowing opportunities?

I am currently a college psychology student. There is a particular clinical institution that I would be interested in doing some shadowing at. My problem is that I'm not sure how to ask if shadowing opportunities are available when I have no prior relationship with the institution. My target institution does not list contact information for specific staff members. The only way I can contact them is by showing up at their location (which I am able to do), or by phone, which are typically for referrals (this institution mostly provides counseling services.) The reason I wish to shadow is to build a relationship with the institution to allow for a possible future internship. I also would like to experience what some of these professionals do on a day-to-day basis because I might end up liking this area of my major. How do I present myself as a desirable shadowing candidate when I'm going in cold? And how exactly do I ask for this type of opportunity? Thanks! #psychology #clinical-psychology #therapy #job-shadowing #networking #professional-development #career-planning #career-exploration #communication-skills

If I want to become a psychiatrist, should I major in biology in college with the pre-med track or psychology with the pre-med track?

I want to become either a clinical psychologist or a psychiatrist. I know that to become a clinical psychologist you don't have to go to medical school but to become a psychiatrist you do have to attend medical school. Is it better for me to major in psychology or biology if I want to get into medical school to study psychiatry? #doctor #medicine #clinical-psychology #psychiatry #psychiatrists

In terms of applying to graduate school, would my chances for admission be higher with a Master's degree?

I am a psychology major and graduating in the Fall of 2025. I've been looking to clinical psychology PhD programs, but some programs don't require a Master's degree for admission. However, I don't know if that would make me less competitive when applying. If I could avoid 2-3 additional years of paying for school I would love that, but I don't know if my chances would be better with more schooling. Any advice would be great!
