How do you know if becoming an engineer is the right career field? What signs give assurance?

I am truly in love with math and science. Both of these topics come natural to me and I would like to pursue a career that uses both of these areas. I feel that engineering encompasses these two things, but I am unsure if it is right for me. My mom is an electrical engineer for both Consumers Energy and the military. When I asked her when she knew she wanted to be an engineer, she gave me a specific moment. I just want to know if and what this moment will be for me. #college #engineering #college-bound #stem-education #decision-making #signs #undecided

How do you find a good place to intern for Biology?

I know that I could probably find a professor that could use my help, but how do I approach them so that I can work by their side. It would be great to be paid, but I don't have to be(that's more a graduate degree thing anyway). I'm about to graduate high school and would like the lab experience. Any time of year. #biology #internships #college-bound #marine-biology

Senior Project: Career Exploration or New Skill?

At my school, all the seniors have to do a senior project. As a Junior who is interested in majoring in film and animation, I do not know whether to make my senior project Career Exploration or a new skill. Which one would be best? A note: Students at my school have different opinions on this. Some say to do one over the other because the latter is less demanding than the former and vice versa. However, I want to make the most use of my senior project. #college-major #college-bound #animation #film-production #cinematography #seniorproject #personal-development

From an insider view, is college what you expected?

From the massive stadiums at football games with fans rushing the field to Project X style frat party movies, is college what it's made out to be? As a student with aspirations of a Ph. D in Neuroscience, I'll be spending a lot of time through school. What is the social atmosphere like? Can one achieve an internship or research work as a freshman? What is dorm life like? Do you begin to enjoy your roommate more, or begin to not like them? Is living off-campus beneficial in the Sophomore through Senior year? #college #college-admissions #college-bound

Why do we like linear trajectories? Aren't the best careers NON-LINEAR?

https://byrslf.co/your-career-is-not-a-path-2a7a02956078#.c2eo8tv9v This is probably one of the best pieces of advice about careers that I've seen. We set our lives up for linear trajectories... (college, grad school, job, marriage, kids, etc) but what if you step OFF the track? After all, deviance is what holds society together. I'm questioning whether I should stay in college because it's setting me up for a LINEAR career trajectory. Seth Godin says, "Pick yourself." meaning don't wait for authority to pick you or give you responsibility. Position yourself in a way that gets your message across regardless of the context. #business #psychology #education #marketing #college-bound #sociology #critical-thinking

What do college admission officers expect to see from an essay?

In my 3rd year English class, my teacher has been focusing on college essays for quite a while. My teacher however, doesn't focus specifically on the format or layout. Rather, he wants my essay to be 'unconventional' and simply out of the ordinary. What is expected of a standard college essay? What can be interpreted as unique? #college #college-admissions #college-bound #college-selection

What is the best way to get me to stop telling myself that I'm not 'good enough' for a certain college?

I'm asking this question because I'm a high schooler who will be going through the college admissions process in a year a so, and I know many high schoolers are angry, frustrated, and stressed out over getting into a 'good' college.
