What colleges/universities should I apply to?
Hi, I'm a high school junior who's trying to figure out which colleges to apply to in August. I want to major in Mechanical Engineering. I want to go out of state for college and to one that's known for its engineering program. The problem is money. I'm interested in the University of Florida and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign but I don't know if they give good financial aid, especially to a student from out of state. I have 4.0 gpa unweighted, have been taking concurrent enrollment since the ninth grade, will graduate with also graduate high school an associate's of science, and have some pretty alright extracurriculars. I just barely took the ACT, so I don't know my score yet but think it'll be around 29-32. I also qualify for maximum financial aid from the FAFSA. What colleges would be a good fit for me, especially since my financial situation is very bad?

How do I decide what college to go to if I don’t know what I want to do?
For pretty much my entire life I thought I wanted to be a veterinarian and I had everything planned out (what classes to take in high school, where to go to college, etc). However, I recently job shadowed a vet and now I don’t think that’s what I want to do. I’m a junior in high school and I have already taken a lot of animal and science related classes to prepare me for vet school, but now I don’t even know if I want to work with animals at all. I think I still want to work in the health field (animals or humans, idk) but I’m not even sure about that either, I’ve also had thoughts about being an engineer or business owner. It’s time for me to start looking at colleges but I have no idea where to start because I don’t know what to do. So how do I choose a college if I don’t know what I want to do, or really even what field I want to go into? Also, how do I choose a career path? #veterinary #college-selection #career-choice

Should I go to a more expensive, prestigious school for the experience and opportunities, or take a more affordable route so that I will have less financial burden in the future?
I got accepted to UCLA, however, I am wondering if it is worthwhile to attend UCLA if it means that I will create more debt for myself in the future. I want the diversity, club organizations, experience, and research opportunities that it offers (I am an Undeclared- Life Sciences major at the moment), although I am not sure what I want to do for a career or exactly what major I want. I have many varying interests in completely different areas (such as acrobatics, dance, biology, theater), and I am hoping that by attending such a diverse university that I will be able to explore these interests and define what is best for me. But then again, the debt (*sigh*). I also realize that it will be more cutthroat at such a university, and therefore I will have to dedicate more time towards studying and possibly might not be able to fit all the things I want to do into my schedule. If I go to a more affordable school, I may not have the same opportunities as at UCLA or be around as driven students as myself. Also, IT'S UCLA!! Why are merit-based scholarships offered by colleges demanding very high test scores and GPA's?
In the modern age, having a 2400 on the SAT (at least the previous version) and a 4.0+ GPA seems to be the only way to be fully-funded by universities, and for some that doesn't even cut it. Doesn't such standards discourage students from applying to those institutions? I understand that colleges want the "cream of the crop," but I don't agree with the way they are approaching that goal. Can anyone provide a counterargument or another perspective on the issue? Thanks! #college #scholarships #colleges #college-selection #scholarship

What is the first step I can take if I have decided that I will take my chances and apply to Stanford the following year?
I am a rising junior in my high school and I know that it is a really long shot that I could ever end up going there. However, I like to have a little faith that I can apply and hope that the college admissions office over there accepts me. I do not even know what to do now though. I take the PSAT's in less than three weeks so I am guessing that should help me out a lot depending on my score obviously. I was just wondering what to do now with this mindset that I am taking my chances and apply over there. I really like the robotics club they have over there and I would love to be in that club. I am pretty sure I would major in mechanical engineering over there if that helps. I have other options too, so even if I do not get in, I know that I will have other chances to pursue mechanical engineering. I just want to know other people's thoughts on the matter of applying to Stanford University. #college #stanford #college-admissions #college-selection #university-applications #engineering
