I am deciding between Harding University and the University of Alabama. Harding is smaller and farther away, but it simply feels like home and I know a lot of people there that would make my college experience more fun and comfortable. My best friend and brother go there as well. However, there is nothing to do, which bothers me. There is also a strict dress code and curfew. The University of Alabama is much bigger but closer to home. Both of my parents attended UA. I would know very few people there, but there is a lot to do. But, the main thing to do there seems to be just partying and drinking, which I have no interest in. I know Harding will help me grow spiritually and I will have a more personal relationship with my professors, which will help with recommendation letters for grad school. But at Bama, I would have the opportunity to possibly make more meaningful connections with better-known names. Plus, football! How do you find a college that is best fit for you?
I am going into my senior year of high school and need to start preparing for college applications. There are several universities that I have been drawn to, but after doing a ton of research, I could not seem to find a university that offers the whole package. I plan to go into the field of occupational therapy in the future, so when I discovered the 5-year BS/MS OT program, I set my mind on getting into one. Throughout high school, I also focused on maintaining a pretty high GPA to increase my chances in getting accepted into one of the top 30 universities in the United States. Additionally, I am looking into colleges on the East coast so I won't be too far from my family. Of course, recreational facilities, hands-on opportunities, and tuition cost are other big things I look for in a college. To my disclosure, there aren't many options that carry the whole load. When choosing one university, I would have to toss out some of the perks I wanted. How can I find a college that is right for me? #college #university #east-coast #occupational-therapy #gpa #college-selection #college-prep
How does applying to colleges with an undecided major versus a decided major differ in the ways they will affect your future?
As a senior in high school, I am in the midst of preparing for the next stop on the long and winding journey we call life. Every turn I take and every decision I make leads me down a different path and I'll admit it, it intimidates me. Even after a ton of research and experimenting, it is hard to settle on one thing that I will be devoting a lot of time and attention to in the next couple of years (and for most of my life). Whenever I discover a profession that somewhat appeals to me, it's like the universe doesn't want my heart to settle on it. Either the field of study is extremely scarce among the colleges I am interested in, it doesn't fit into the lifestyle I am looking for, or I would have to complete additional graduate studies. I always thought that applying to colleges with a decided major will foster a higher acceptance rate to that college, but I don't want to make the wrong move. Having a definite major would allow me to complete the program's prerequisites quickly, but if I go undecided, I feel like I am wasting my time taking classes that wouldn't really benefit me. What are the benefits of each type of admission? What are the drawbacks? #undecided #decided #college #college-admissions #college-selection #college-major #life
