How does one become a Research Scientist?

My actual plan is to make it through the Biology program at Case (Western Reserve University) and then be accepted into their Genetics Graduate program. Just in case that doesn't work, my back-up plan is a research Scientist in Biology. Problem is, I'm not sure how to become one! I'd appreciate some insight. Anything and everything is welcome. Thanks! #college #biology #graduate #research #students #college-student #genetics

What is the most important factor when looking into a buying a laptop for school?

My name is Briana, and I am currently a freshman in college. Throughout the summer, I had received a check for a local scholarship and am very thankful. With this money, I had planned to spend more than I currently had on textbooks. As I had spent most of y middle and high school career with a shared computer with my family, it proved to be more complicated to even get the time and silence necessary to do work. Now that i am able, my parents have set me loose onlooking for a computer that would best suit my needs. Except that I know practically nothing about them, aside for memory space and a new need for WiFi. I would thank anyone who takes the time to respond. #teacher #computer #higher-education #college-student #college-advice #computers #educational-technology

If you don't know what exactly it is you want to pursue a career in, how exactly do you pick a major for college/university?

I'm interested in quite a few different career paths and all of the career paths can't be tied together in just one major and I'm not too sure as to which career path that I intend on pursuing or if I will pursue more than one. I'm still trying to figure things out but scholarships are mostly directed to specific career paths or majors and 'Undecided' isn't always an option and I've heard that going into college/university as undecided can actually set you back and result in graduating at a later date. #college-major #college-student #undecided #college-graduate

If I have spent more than 7 years away from dance, but I still love dancing is it worth it to go after a career in dance even though I'll be behind all of those people who've danced for over 15 years straight?

One of the very first things I started doing as a child was dancing and it's always been something that I've thoroughly enjoyed and allowed me to express myself and just be me, but I haven't danced in nearly 8 years. I just want advice on whether or not I should pursue dance as a career or if I should just do it recreational because I don't want to look back later in life and regret not pursuing something that I've always loved even though I've grown to enjoy other things that aren't dance. #artist #dance #college-student #dance-education

Is it possible to balance a double major with one major being architecture?

I'm asking this because I'm interested in architecture and engineering, but I'm also interested in a few other career paths and I'm not sure whether it's better for me to just pick one and go to college for it (since I've been told that architecture is a very time consuming major) or try and go to college for all of them. #graduate #architecture #college-student #double-major

How beneficial will AP Physics C be for freshmen year college physics?

I do not plan on attempting to place out of Physics 100 in college (every person I've encountered on visits has dissuaded me for some very good reasons). Though I am curious as to how helpful AP physics will be/how much of the same material will be covered. Can't seem to tell from course descriptions. What are some quick resume boosters for prospective college students?

My cousin is graduating next spring and I want to help him find impressive and enriching programs to get involved in this summer. I know it is already June, but I hope to find something that can make him stand out on college applications. He likely has to start sending those out in August or September. Any advice, links, etc, are appreciated! P.S. he wants to attend a college with a great medical program, especially in neuroscience! #college #medicine #resume #neuroscience #college-student #summer-programs

What should a college-bound student do in the summer before their first fall semester?

Hello, everyone! I'm a recent graduate of an early college program. I've an Associates in Arts degree and high school diploma under my belt, but I have no idea what my next move should be. There are tons of resources at my disposal, but frankly I'm not sure where to start. I've been accepted into the school of my choice and am slowly getting the technical things (e.g. housing) situated, but I can't help that there is some massive step (or a few smaller, helpful ones) that I'm not taking. How should a high school graduate spend her summer? What are a few (lesser known) things you wish you did before moving onto campus for the first time? #college #undergraduate #college-student

How do you stay motivated?

Is it better to be "well rounded" or "specialized"?

All around, we are told to take classes in which we have no interest in, yet do so anyway due to wanting to be "well-rounded" Do colleges and universities want to see a "spike" in terms of academics and extracurriculars (meaning a specialty, such as if you have a passion for science, then a strong physics, biology, chemistry, etc.) or a student who takes a diverse set of classes, but a weak specialty? All answers are accepted! #college #teacher #professor #university #student #college-student #ivy-league
